Hmmmm I dont remember my d-limo being cloudy before adding my fasi

Your FASI should not look cloudy. The fumaric acid should dissolve in your IPA. If your solution is overly cloudy that will result in the excess fumaraic acid settling on the bottom of your container. thats OK just decant your FASI. Remember too much fumaric acid will mean excess in your final product that you'll have to get out later. The best way to prevent that is not to put it in now.

BLAB was just edited for clarity. The FASI wont look cloudy, it will be clear. Let the excess fumaric acid decant for a minute and pour out IPA away from it. You can filter it if you want just to be sure, but if you just let it stand for a few minutes, any excess fumaric acid will go to the bottom and you can decant the IPA away without bringing any across.
 
One more note,

remember, you can always come back and add a little more fasi to you d-limo. In other words , its better to start off not adding enough than too much. Gei your IPA saturated but not excessive. Add it to the d-limo little by little keep adding it as long as the D-limo clouds up. Adding too much just means more work later. You can always revisit and draw the rest of your spice out.
 
I agree with all you said, Ice House, except with the 'Get your IPA saturated, but not excessive'.. What do you mean? If its saturated, its saturated. Any excess fumaric acid will just fall to the bottom and can be saved. Personally I find better go with a big excess fumaric acid to saturate the IPA, decant properly away from it, and later retrieve the undissolve fumaric acid to save for some other time, rather than possibly use too little fumaric acid and not get the IPA saturated.
 
if you took it with your cellphone camera or something, its possible it has some meta data which is personal information about you. So before uploading any of these pictures on the internet, save them as a .bmp file, and then resave them under a different .jpg name, and it will have erased meta data (because bmp files dont support it). Then go to a website like imageshack and upload the pictures, and copy the code they give you for posting the picture on forums.

Or next to the top-right of each of your posts where there is the "delete" and "edit" buttons, there should also be an "attach" one, where you can attach pictures and files here


and yes it is sufficient to filter the FASI through a coffee filter to remove excess fumaric.

endlessness, either way will work, IME I find it easier to get my IPA saturated and try to avoid having all the excess on the bottom. I know it can be saved and I do save any excess I decant. I find it easiest to warm my IPA up in a hot water bath so it will hold more, mix my FA in, let it cool so I see a little precip on the bottom, then I know I'm saturated. I just prefer to keep what I dont need at that moment dry and in the bottle.

Find out what works best for you curious1 the steps for the BLAB, in the Wiki, are well written. The BLAB is a very simple, highly productive tek, IMO. Stick with the simple steps as outlined in the Wiki and success will be yours.

its going exactly as it should. If you want to make it as best as possible, just let this stand for a few hours, then drop a few more mls and you'll see it will get more cloud, and keep doing this slowly over the next day or something, or until it stops cloudying.. Then just let it stand for a few days and youll get nice fumarate crystals

yes indeed, and this is exactly why I find the BLAB a fun tek, kinda interactive. It keeps on giving. Work slow be patient and you'll get it all out. With any luck you'll get a little over 1.5%, I've seen as hi as 1.8%

Hey just watch the jar of FASI, there is prolly a little fumaric acid on the bottom, if there is make sure you decant it, the saturated IPA is what you want.

We should start seeing some crystals forming soon.

As for the cloudiness or what you call murky, red this thread read all of it. That should answer that question. the white specks are good, thats prolly the spice beginning to precip out of your FASI cloud. brownish sludge isnt what you want. Its not DMT fumarate sludge as you call it and its definately not because you added the FASI too fast. I have added the FASI slow and I have dumped it in quick it works both ways. Wich way is best? that depends on who you ask.

If its brown and its in there at this point in the proces its probably very tiny ammounts of basified solution.

this is no reason to panic. It can be completely removed, so dont worry about it right now. continue with the process and you'll re visit this after you precip out all of your spice.

Dont worry, stick with it.

My last response was made before your pic was posted.

Thats not brown sludge. Thats your spice building up. That sludge is all DMT fumarate. That looks very good. it looks dark because light isnt getting through.

Forget what I said in the earlier post about brown stuff.

Thats not brown.
