I got this super cactus!! Probably non-pc?? : )

Migrated topic.

Argyreius

Rising Star
I found it in a greenhouse, I was looking for peruvianus (I have a lot of them but in a different place) and bridgesii (have none of this) but they haven't. Luckily I saw 3 amazing pachanoi with the san pedro name there, coming from a collectionist storage. I hope that this one that I bought is the real deal pachanoi since the other 5 I got from another particular guy seems to be PC, as the trout's images and another sources seem to tell. I have at the moment an ounce of peruvianus chips dried, and 47 g dried of one of the suspicted pc. So I'm not sure if this one I have is non-pc, as I have the intuition that is real pachanoi, and a very good looking one. Is like 3 feet tall, and 5 inches diameter. What would you do? Cut the mid part of it? maybe 40-50 cms? I don't know if it is too much if it is a good one. Would you do a bioassay with the peruvianus alone or mixing it with the suspected pc?
P.s.: I'm not in American continent.
Have a cacti day

tehy weren't here, but they are now. Were probably loawding . Now I wonder if it's some kind of spineless pachanoi.. luvly f its the case.

It has only one spine in each areola, and always pointing downwards. Another good thing that is noticeable is that the shape of the ribs is not saw-like, more like a light and soft zigzag oscillating curve, if that make sense.

Espurrr, I saw your mescaline garden and is amazing, good job, I hope I'll have time and space to learn to graft, I've never work with lophophora species or pereskiopsis, but seems promising. So you're more or less sure that my specimen could be a "plain" whatever pachanoi instead of a PC? I think they it is quite different from the suspected PC's I have elsewhere, I attach here some of the maybe PC's just to point that out:

To throw some lights on the last photos, the last ones are my cactuses, tho they have been transplanted to some real soil the last months, unfortunately some of them have rotted or infected by fungus  . But well, the first one is the mother plant of the suspected PC's, I really don't know its origin since they weren't mine at that moment and I didn't talk enough about it with the last owner. As you can see, the most of them are peruvianus, of unknown origin two, I will ask soon the guy, but I doubt he could tell exactly. So, any consideration about my first use? would you take the chips I already have (almost 3 ounces) of peruvianus and suspected PC's or would you cut my suspected non-pc to bioassay on its own?

The first set of photos is not PC. The plant in question from the latter set of photos does not look like PC either, though the photo is not very clear. By PC I mean the North American predominant cultivar. Nice plants!

Hi again to everybody!,
There's a question for every cactus user here. What would you consider to be the average dose of dried chips to get a proper medium/potent trip? I have 3 sources:
1-28 grams dried chips of good peruvianus (told by last owner)
2- 47 grams of not so potent compared to peruvianus) pachanoi (of the last set of photos, also told by last owner)
3- The big pachanoi of the first set of photos (not bioassayed yet).

Would you test the potency of each batch alone or would you mix with a big pachanoi tea every batch of dried chips?
P.S.: I would like to test it (mesc trip) with my gf but maybe is not enough material, what do you think?

Hi,
Beautiful cacti! I see nothing in your pics I would suspect as PC. It is so hard to classify Trichocereus, especially when there are more and more hybrids appearing and phenotypes can vary so much. That first big pretty one looks like it might have some Juul's Giant genetics, or Scopulicola (or both). In the view from above it looks like straight up Pachanoi. Here is a pic of one of mine which was sold to me as a "Juul's x Scopulicola".

I have no experience with dosing dried cactus as I've always started with fresh. My standard test for potency these days is to start with about 400 - 500 grs fresh cactus and make tea.

My approach is also to use fresh cactus these days, so it's similarly hard to make dosage suggestions for dried cactus. After making tea from as much cactus as possible, I then boil it down to about half the volume in litres that the weight of the fresh cactus was in kilos. This tea can then be sipped or cautiously swigged until effects begin to appear. I've found my body at least is very good at letting me know when I've had just the right amount, but for tea made with reasonably potent material according to this method it should be about 125mL or so, which would of course correspond to 250 - 300g of fresh cactus.
