Introduce myself

Rising Star
Hi everyone, this is my first post here!
Congratulations for the forum and all the resources, I've been reading the posts and the wiki pages for a while now and I would like to share some experiences.

My first experience with DMT was not so long ago, a friend of mine brougth me a vape juice cartrige that I loved! So as soon as the cartrige ended I tryied extracting myself the spice following all the resources I could find online.
I tried following some STB TEKs, sometimes with good results.

Over time I gained some experience and a "recipe" began to emerge, but I'm really not sure if what I'm smoking is toxic or not! For now I'm still alive, but who knows?!

The following is my "tek", I wanted to keep it as simple as possible.

Again I don't know if it is toxic in any way, and I would like some advice regarding the health and the environmental impact of this recipe.
Or, if it is safe, I'm glad to share my knowledge with the world!

Tools:
  • A (empty) wine bottle (750 ml)
  • some cork stoppers
  • A pot, I'm not sure about the size (about 6 liters)
  • Some beakers (I have a set with 500ml, 250ml, 100ml and 50ml)
  • A hot plate magnetic stirrer
  • A funnel
  • A small glass container (with lid) that can go in the freezer

Ingredients:
  • 42g MHRB powder
  • 42g NaOH
  • 42ml hexane (pure, the purer I could buy from a chemistry shop)
  • 420ml tap water
  • some baloons
  • glass pipettes (5 or 10ml)

Steps:
1. Start:
  • Put the 420ml of water in the 500ml beaker and put them on the hot plate magnetic stirrer.
  • Add the 42g of NaOH in the 500ml beaker with water (on top of the stirrer) and stir until the lye solves.
  • Fill the pot with water and put the pot on top of the hot plate stirrer, then heat the water inside the pot to at least 42°C but less than 69°C .
    • Enough to solve the spice but less than the boiling point of hexane.
  • Put the MHRB powder in the wine bottle (the funnel can help).
  • Using the funnel, pour the water with lye from the beaker in to the bottle with the MHRB and close the bottle with a cork.
  • Shake vigorously for a minute.
2. Extraction
  • Add the 42ml of hexane in the bottle, close with the cork and put a baloon on the neck of the bottle to cover the cork (to avoid leaking the hexane gasses from the cork).
  • Shake, shake and shake!!! until a really bad nasty emulsion forms.
  • Place the bottle in the pot with the warm water.
    • Don't place the bottle straight upright, place it tilted to one side, so as to submerge the liquid content of the bottle as much as possible.
    • Every now and then rotate or gently shake the bottle.
  • When the bottle heats and the pressure raise, the balloon should inflate a little. Open the bottle to release the pressure inside it and close it again (with cork and baloon).
  • Now place the bottle upright in the pot (not tilted this time). This should lower the pressure inside the bottle (right?).
  • Wait until the heat and the low pressure breaks the emulsion.
  • Extract the hexane with the pipette and put it inside a small beaker (like the 50 or 100 ml), it's ok if some black stuff spills in the beaker in this phase.
  • Decant the hexane just extracted, in the 250 ml beaker (so as to leave the black stuff in the smaller beaker), and leave it outside to evaporate a little (not all of it).

3. Repeat the extraction
  • Repeat the 2. Extraction steps for 4 or 5 times, always pouring the hexane in the same 250ml beaker.
    • If the beaker is too full, wait untill the hexane evaporate enough before repeat the 2. Extraction steps.

4. Evaporate
  • Wait until the hexane evaporate enough and some yellow goo should form on the bottom of the beaker
  • When some yellow goo and a few crystals form on the bottom of the 250ml beaker with the hexane, heat it a little.
    • Heat enough to solve the crystals inside the yellow goo but not too much to dissolve too much of the goo.

5. Freeze
  • Put the remaining hot hexane (with the spice) from the beaker to the glass container, leaving the most of the yellow goo in the 250ml beaker.
  • Close the glass container well with its lid and wrap it with cellophane.
  • Put the glass container in the freezer.
  • After a day the spice will precipitate on the bottom of the glass container.

6. Remove the remainig hexane
  • Pour the hexane away from the glass container (leaving the frozen spicy crystals in the glass container).
  • Put outside for some days the glass container with the crystals to evaporate the remaining hexane on the crystals.
  • Inside the pot, heat some water and put the glass container to evaporate the remaining hexane in a water heated bath.
  • The spice will solve and the hexane should evaporate better (I think).
  • Collect the honey spice on the bottom of the glass container and let it cool down.
    • With a little patience, the spice will coagulate.

7. Disposing of the black stuff
  • The black stuff has a PH out of the scale of my litmus papers.
  • Pour the black stuff in a container and add vinegar to neutralize the PH of the black stuff.
  • 1l of vinegar should be enough to neutralize the PH of all the black stuff.
  • When the black stuff gain an acceptable PH (like 7, i think), you could safely dispose it on the toilet, I guess (right?).

So again my main concerns are
  • Is the result of this "TEK" toxic?
  • Is it ok to dispose the black stuff in that way? (neutralizing it with vinegar and then throw it in the toilet)

Best regards, I love you all!
Thanks for everything!!

Hi there, good effort.

One thing about your 'tek' that's toxic is the hexane. I'd avoid exposure to that if I were you. Relying on evaporating it for your tek to be effective is just 😬 As an alternative, heptane will allow you to achieve similar results with a much lower toxicity. Also, the solubility of DMT in subzero alkanes like these is so low that you don't really need to evaporate them down -you can freeze the first couple of pulls and then reuse the solvent for more pulls, minimising the tiny amount of DMT that remains dissolved.

The yellow goo left in the beaker after the warm hexane treatment can be processed with a mini A/B cycle to recover more product - it is mostly polymeric DMT and the acid treatment breaks this down to a large extent.

Thank you for the reply!
I thought that using hexane were better because it has a lower boiling point than the other solvents, so I thought it would evaporate easier. Good to know that this is not that important given the neurotoxicity of the hexane! Next time I will use heptane. Thank you!

So you are saying that it is not harmful to use all that lye? I tought that 42g for 420ml of water were way too much, so much so that it would compromise the final product. If this is not the case, very good to know!

The reason why I evap some of the solvent collected in the beaker is because with the heat and the emulsion, this method extracts a lot of yellow stuff, so to leave some of the yellow in the beaker, I evap some of the solvent to precipitate the yellow part so the final result is a bit whiter.
And after this I put the container with the solvent in the freezer for a day (or two), then I remove the solvent from the glass container, then I put the glass container outside to dry the crystals for a couple of days, then I solve the crystal in a water bath to remove any trace of the remaining solvent.

So, to recap
  • Heptane is better than hexane from a health perspective
  • Using all that lye will not make the product more toxic
Is that right?

What about the disposing of the black waste by-product by neutralizing it with vinegar and throwing it in the toilet (at a PH of about 7)?

You may be right in thinking that the extract might work as well or better with a smaller proportion of lye. Evidence suggests that excessive contact time with higher concentrations of base contributes greatly to the polymerisation.

Some experiments were done some years ago to establish a few parameters in that area.

That's perfectly fine as far as I know (as long as your town does waste water treatment). If you don't do it too often you likely don't need to bother neutralizing it, lye is commonly used as a drain cleaner so your pipes should have no problem handling it, and it will be diluted and treated afterwards.

Aloha!!
I want to thanks everybody for the answers! They mean a lot to me!!

And also sorry for the delay in responding.

I think my next experiment will have the following changes
- use vinegar instead of water
- make a pull before adding the soda to remove some of the yellow
- use heptane instead of hexane

I will let you know the results!

Again, thanks everyone for the replies!

Considerations :

evaporate in open air environment from start to finish to avoid breathing vapors

Use a gas rated respirator

Be careful heating solvents

Be careful drying solvents with fans especially in confined spaces or anywhere near ignition sources so as to not create a barometric event from self ignition.

always keep a litmus on you and atheist some soap, cooking oil, and vinegar nearby as well as a shower ready for decontamination if you have a spill.
- liquid soap to wash off any spills on skin immediately
-cooking oil to neutralize naoh spills (this creates a saponification process i.e it produces inert soap on the floor ) pour it on liberally and mix with something like a clean broom, the liquid should go cloudy and viscous and test out pretty neutral the soap should also help break down and emulsify any excess oil. If too much oil is present more liquid soap or detergent can be used to pick it up with a mop.
-vinegar to neutralize the naoh immediately on skin contact. I suggest a vinegar rinse at the site if work followed by a full decon shower with lots and lots of soap. The skin itself may feel slimy or slippery where the naoh touches especially it left untreated. Just wash 2+ times with lots of soap and let the sites breath but keep it clean.

Testing end batch for excess Neptune.
Does it smell like Neptune? If so, let it breathe longer after mixing the powder around. Does it ignite or light when approached with a flame? If so let it breathe longer. On the tail end of evaporation when the product starts to look dry you can use gentle heat underneath to encourage total evaporation but do not use anything capable of ignition and do it in a well ventilated area.

Common signs Signs of gas poisoning :
Headache
Confusion
Nausea
Blurred vision
Agitation
Disorientation.

If you smell vapors then youre inhaling them. After some time of unprotected exposure you may begin to notice this exposure less and less which can lead to symptoms mentioned above. These symptoms get worse with higher dose exposures and repetitive exposure and many of these solvents are known to produce carcinogenic responses under certain conditions so ventilation is a must as far as health goes both now and especially long term. Persistent solvent exposure is also linked to lung, heart, kidney, and brain disease long term as well .

If you do your part, respect the process and the end results then you should be fine. Its when we get lazy, haphazard, and comfortable that accidents and bad events happen while extracting.

I don't think there's any harm in being overly cautious.

Best of luck 👍
