introducing some friends

I have been asked by some dear friends to introduce them to the world of DMT. Their motivation is purely spiritual!

Quite a responsibility! I don't want to deny them this miracle, but they are completely new to entheogens, having not even tried low dose mushrooms.

Will the shock of a complete breakthrough be too great? I was thinking of pre-dosing on 1.5 grams of dry potent Cubensis, they heighten sensitivity to everything and can help determine if the 'vibes are good'. If the vibes are bad, the launch can always be cancelled.

The alternative would be Rue tea: the combination with smoked spice is smoother, and inhalation of the vapors less critical, buildup slower. More like an extended experience where one can inhale more as required.

Some advice from you wise people would be appreciated!

this reminds me of a foaf's first real psychedelic experience with pharma. A friend came to swim and asked me what I thought, Swim told him its a big responsibility! caution must be taken, and swim also inquired about their intent. Well their intent was merely "to have fun," Swim advised him its prob not a good place to start as far as psychs go. well swims friend went ahead and the girl fished out and started freaking, things went bad fast. Swim wanted to say to him so bad "told ya so."

So swim thinks staring with some cubensis could be a good idea. And like you said if the vibes are right to then proceed. swim knows what you mean wanting to share this miracle, but at the same time it scares swim sharing with unexperienced mental travelers. I assume your talking about smoking it? thats probably not as bad as aya, due to the length of the experience. Lets us know how it goes.

A low dose of mushrooms, on their own, would be the best way to test the waters in my opinion; let them digest the experience over days/weeks and then see how you all want to proceed.

I have turned on lots of people to DMT who've never done any other psychedelics before.
Every single one of them has had a wonderful, deep experience...no has ever freaked out.

It all about set & setting. You don't need to bore them with that, take care of it for them!!
Set them up for their first time, like you would have wanted to be set up!!

Here's how I usually do it:
* fill them in on the typical things; possible loud tone, increase in heart rate, closing their eye, entities, etc...

* Make sure the room is dimly lit, quiet & comfortable!!!

* have them take one good toke first...to check out the body feeling, how long it lasts etc.. Let that go away completely before doing any more.

* Sit down on the bed & I take care of holding & lighting everything, all they have to do is inhale & hold it in.

* shut up!! Once they have started taking the real dose, don't keep talking to them, let em enjoy & explore it.

* give em 3-4 good hits. I always tell them that when they think they've had enough, I'm going to give them one more...to get there for sure!! (Don't force it though, if they fight that last toke at all, let em go!)

*once they've taken all their dose, remind them to lay back & close their eyes!! And quietly get out of the room. (let em know before, that you are going to do this, some people want you to stay with them)

* Remain completely silent!!! Don't talk, unless responding to a question!! Let them take it all in!

* When they come back, they will no doubt want to talk, so let them tell you all about it!! In fact it's a good idea to encourage them to talk about it as soon as they can talk, to help remember it.

Very good post.
Great advice and I agree to every word.

I love introducing spice to people. It is one of my favorite things to do. I agree with WS. That post is exactly how I introduce people.

I have not given anyone a breakthrough dose yet on their introduction. I usually tell them to take one big toke and hold it is as long as possible. Then after that they can go where they want to go. It seems most of my friends find anything more than 2 tokes too intense and they can't handle it.

I wish there were more like minded people around me as I love sharing this molecule with people. I probably gave out 2 grams of dmt at the bisco show last weekend and everyone was so grateful. It made me feel so good.

Warrensaged...this is perfect advise. My friend had the oppertunity to introduce this sacrament to someone who had not so much as had 1 toke of mj.

She had a wonderful time. He loaded her up 40mgs and told her to only take 1 hit, thinking a subbreakthrough dose would be best to start off with. She finished the bowl in 2 hits. Layed back under a Weeping Willow and had an amazing experience. She now uses this as an antidepressant, or just to focus herself when things seem out of whack.

I agree 100% that things should be quiet, and don't f with someone under the influence of spice...It's just wrong on so many levels.

Who you give YOUR spice to is 100% up to you. It is NOT for everyone, and I highly suggest NEVER giving to anyone under 18 (for your own legal safety). Also, if you extract, I highly suggest NOT telling them where you got your spice. People talk, and if some poor guy gets busted with a gram of MJ and they offer him a deal, he may give you up...I've seen it happen before (thank god not to me).

Please be picky, even though it's tempting to introduce a lot of people. There are some serious risks attached for you and others. Just imagine people phoning you "Yo, I know xyz and he told me you have this crazy shieeeeeeeeat! DM P or sumthin...get meh sum bro'!"

Great replies! Yes, I'm very picky about this, they are responsible, 40+ and I've known them for many years.
Tonight is the night...

Good luck! let us know how it went. For some reason i do not feel like i can introduce people to spice... ive tried a few times and they just did not appreciate it the way we do. dont get me wrong the people i introduced it to are great people and long time friends of mine. but i just feel awkward doing it or something missing. someone told me maybe it because you are not a shaman, and a true shaman will know how and what to give to people. i dont know to much about shamanism but that sounds pretty much logical to me! =P

I have friends that I know would get terrified if they would do DMT. I would never encourage them to take a hit. I even know people that have done loads of shrooms and lsd but I feel they're not ready for DMT. But then I met this fella the other day for the first time and we took some shrooms with two other friends and then all smoked DMT. I could tell just after talking to this guy for an hour that he would handle the trip good and he did so very well. Seemed to have good control over his trip and could jump back and fourth in and out of the trip when it started to wear off. And needed only 20mg for a breakthrough. This guy is very easy going and does meditate regularly.

Phew, just back... yes, it's awkward, I don't feel like a 'shaman' at all and don't like to tell people what to do...It was a bit more messy than intended but afterwards my friend was pissed off because I didn't tell him about DMT earlier, so I guess it's a success! :)

I advised them (my friend R whom I've known for 25 years and his wife E) to take a bit of mushrooms but they found that too lengthy. She decided she wasn't ready for it yet (even having trouble 'letting go' with meditation). Maybe she was put off by my story about the Pillar and how my own death seemed laughably trivial compared to that when I came back ;)
But R really wanted to have a go at an introduction dose. So, we took some Rue tea to lengthen and smoothen the ride.

After my first toke he grabbed the pipe and took a big hit himself, stating he wanted to do it 'together' - not according to the plan at all, communication mistake. He coughed up but got in a trance anyway, afterwards he said he just could not 'fall' as he called it.

A second attempt 40 minutes later was more relaxed, he described it as being a grasshopper and had a total body relaxation. Once he started to talk I assumed he was back and E and me we talking a bit, later he said that was very annoying. Second mistake! Wait longer with talking, lesson learnt.

Also, the smoking technique must be optimized to prevent coughing even from absolute nonsmokers. We used a glass water bong with a machine-like dot of copper wire and large very pure crystals. It was all or nothing. Machines work better when upside down I think. Gravity should help the spice to flow towards the heat, not away from it.
Also, some Changa research to do...

All in all very worthwhile, I left some mushrooms and spice behind for them to explore at their convenience. I'm glad I could give them something so incredible, I hope they will go deep and realize this was only a tiny tip of the iceberg.

The seed has been sown... ;)

I've been in the small Midwestern town (less than 20,000 people) that I grew up in, for the last few days, visiting family etc... & I got a chance to turn on a good friend, that I hung out with all the time as a teenager.
It was so perfect!!

His diagnosis of hyperspace (& my new saying!😉 ) = "It's all in there"!!!
It was the first thing he said when he got back!!
He also quietly muttered, "ooh, this is serious" at one point.
Fucking NICE!!!

Crazy part was, he asked me about it!!!
He has been getting into Jujitsu lately, & there is a famous fighter, that hangs around Joe Rogan, that mentions DMT in a book he wrote about training & my pal remembered me mentioning something about it years ago.
He started telling me about it & how he has been reading a whole lot about DMT lately, that it was turning up everywhere he looked.
I let him go on for about 20 minutes.
Then I said really calmly..."OK, so would you like to try some?"
He just laughed.
So I said, "No I'm serious, I brought some with me, some really pure DMT!!"
He was floored! "I thought I'd never get the chance to even see this stuff!!!"

Talk about synchronicity...huh?

He has a very powerful telescope, so we packed it up, plus a smoking device & some DMT & headed out into the country to get away from any lights, sound or civilization in general. Found a nice place next to a river, it was perfect!
Set out there all night, looking at Jupiter, smoked DMT a few times & waxed poetic on reality, consciousness & philosophy!!
Could not have been a better scene!

I'm going to leave the rest of what I have with him (about another 6x, 50mg doses) to experiment with by himself, probably gonna send him some Harmalas to for when he has gained a little experience.
He doesn't know this yet though.😉
Talk about Christmas in July!

Man I love turning new people on to DMT!!!
It all in there....indeed!!

A low dose of DMT (2 hits or 10mg) is the perfect introduction to psychedelics. Mushrooms would be good too but a low dose DMT session is very effective. People are comfortable with the short duration and tend to let go more. If they don't like it it is over in 5 minutes. Never do a break through for someones first time. One should be very familiar with the effects of DMT prior to a break through. SWIM did DMT prob 20 times prior to a full break through dose.

I couldn't agree more bufoman!

Wow WS, I really envy your setting... as a kid I used to watch the sky with a telescope, had some unforgettable nights. But man it's hard to find a good dark spot in this overpopulated country with its murky polluted sky.

Good work and nice synchronicities indeed. :)

I've got to disagree 100% with you bufoman.

Low doses of DMT can be dysphoric and can turn people off to DMT for good. I personally always give 30-50mgs to a neophyte. 30mgs if they have never done any psycadelics and 50mgs if they have and enjoy them.

However, I ALWAYS give a short speach about DMT before lift off, it's effects, what to expect, its duration and what the comedown is like. Sometimes, but not always, I will give a recount of things I have seen...though I really prefer to hear about someones experience that has NEVER heard McKenna, or read a trip report, or heard my stories...that way I know that their experience was not influenced in any way. I also always am present for their launch. I don't leave them with a vial and say good luck.

My friend's fiance's first experience with ANY mind altering substances was with DMT about 3 weeks ago. My friend wanted to give her a sub-breakthrough dose, but loaded up 40mgs so he could have a bit after her. She ended up taking the entire 40mgs and is VERY glad she did. I think a sub-breakthrough dose would have left her confused and shaken instead of full of love and life. She has since done spice quite a few times, always with a full breakthough.

My first 2 experiences (a year apart) were both full breakthroughs and I'm glad they were! If all I had was a sub-breakthrough dose I might have never tried it again. Because of the short duration I believe that even if someone has a terrifying experience that a few kind words and a "close your eyes, it will get better very soon" is all that is needed.

If you want to ease someone into psycadelics then give them some mushrooms, or an RC....make a night of it, and make sure you are there with them, esp if you supplied the mushrooms!

Hm, if you put it that way you also have a point Acolon. Blast, why is everything always so complicated!

I asked them if they wanted a full-blown breakthrough or just an introduction, and they explicitly chose the latter. She even decided not to participate... I can hardly force them! So, he took my advice of using Rue tea to make the smoking less critical, smooth it out and extend it. Low doses are much more pleasurable when on oral harmalas. Also, I doubt he would have been able to inhale 50 mg effectively.

In hindsight, I find it a pretty heavy burden of responsibility... by the way: during my visit, I was literally hit hard by a boomerang while playing in a park, a large gash in an eyebrowe - maybe a sign of warning: things can come back like a boomerang ;)
