..been a while since i've been on here hope you're all doing well... i've been quite busy with music which has steered me away from my acacia explorations a bit - but recent scanning of the nexus and reconnection to the trees inspired me to post this topic..

i feel that when done well, psychedelic trance expresses a deep primordial language with infinite possibilities and ideas capable of resonating with human beings on a profoundly deep level. like a psychedelic substance, when experienced in a good set and setting this often tribal-like dance music can allow one to achieve states of transcendance in my opinion every bit as valuable as that which many of the entheogens we know have to offer... in combination with dance (and psychedelics when the time is right) a "science" of the consciousness and its relationship to sound can be understood and furthered. I see dance as a great way to explore the body and mind

the thing is though, is that there is an element of formula to psychedelic trance which can be used for better and worse - like all genres. I have noticed that a lot of people miss out on the incredible potential for growth that this tempo of music has to offer due to an abundance of very average (and not particularly intelligent or psychedelic) music in the genre - and that is why i thought I would start a thread that invites members to listen to what I feel are good tracks that showcase its potential. this style of music isn't done justice from the seat in front of the computer and is better suited to the outdoors in a location where the soundscapes can interact with the natural environment.

at the end of the day music is subjective and I am not here to convince anyone to like this music, but to anybody interested here are some tunes which have blessed me with some life affirming times on the dancefloor :)
 
these tracks are by a producer based in Switzerland who goes by the name of Electrypnose - another favourite of mine, this guys music pays ridiculous attention to detail and explores a whole range of different emotions ranging from sad, to curious, to downright dark and creepy. his music is fantastic for me at guiding one through visionary experiences and I hold his music close to my heart!

this is an artist i got into just recently and I reckon his music is a about the best example of the "psytrance dugga dugga sound" .. although he puts his own twist on it. full to the brim with hypnotically hooking basslines, intelligent and intricate sound design and a very deep tribal vine. great music for deep night time experiences on the dancefloor. definitely worth a listen

I disagree hug46. I find it radical to dance/listen to. If one person or a group of people don't like the sound, doesn't make the genre any different. Just like rock, jazz, reggae, funk, classical, metal, IDM, EDM, electronic, psytrance etc. Clearly there are some basic changes within this particular genre, again though, its all on what you enjoy. There will be music in this life you won't like but others will love. That Cambodia song is killer by the way, thank you.

I've been tuning to Quantize for some time now. This was the first psytrance song I ever listened to..which lead me to the discovery of DMT. 😁

Cognitive heart i do not think that all new psytrance is sh"t. That link i posted was very toungue in cheek and a response to Acacian"s comments about the genre sometimes becoming too formulaic. I have a soft spot for trance music for some reason. But i will admit that most of the stuff i like was from the last century. Which maybe down to me being totally out of touch, due to my age.

I see where you come from. I do like a lot more music from the last century as well..much of it being a little more authentic and 'underground' so to speak imo..even though I didn't grow up around it, discovering truly great sounds throughout the past few years has made an incredible, fresh outlook for me..respect to you hug.
 
i agree in regards to your earlier post, Cognitive Heart.. I think its like all music.. a genre can't really be regarded as good or bad as there are a myriad of differen't people who compose music which fit into it... i can think of a lot of terrible rock, hip hop, chill/ambient.. but obviously it would be incredibly ignorant to say that those genres are no good based upon a few tunes one doesn't like, although its something I hear time again about psychedelic trance. people seem to think its all the same based purely on the fact that its at 145 bpm
 
I love a bit of psytrance. The production values are so pristine; every little noise, click and squelch has its own space in the mix.

my favourite producer was Cosma and you can hear his second album from way back in 2003 here:


ps. Listening to Tristan Boyle and Spacey Koala right now and loving them both. Very contemporary. absolutely stunning production values. :)

I think that there is still a lot of authentic underground music being made nowadays. With the advancement of computer technology creativity with music is accessible to more people and it can be put into the public arena via the internet. There is just more to wade through. When i get home i will give all the tunes listed here a good listen.
I also am of the opinion that there is no such thing as sh"t music. Just that we all have different tastes.

@ Acacian. There were some tunes that you posted a few months ago that you had made, some of which i really enjoyed.

Similar sentiment here. The track you posted made me want to find one old favorite Slinky Wizard track but I couldn't remember its name. I participated in the psytrance scene in the NE US in the '90s and early '00s, but I always gravitated more towards what some called psytech, which I found more interesting. Spirallianz, Midimiliz, The Delta, Authentik were my favorites in that space. Earlier this year I went to Tribal Gathering in Panama and, having been out of touch with the scene for a while, found it hard to relate to the music and mostly just enjoyed my time with my family in the beautiful natural surroundings.:)

thanks Hug46 i'm glad you enojoyed.. i've refrained from posting most of my own beats up as I havent been writing much psytrance lately. been working on slower tempos
 
This is one of my favourites from back in 2004... 10 years old seems so long in trance years :)

Yeah I'm not sure if it's because it's such a "visual" sounding track with just the right touch of squelch and slightly mindbending but still melodic and groovey as the best of them or the fact I discover'd it around the time I first started dosing high with mushrooms, but this track has a very special place for me.
