Is my Rue extract freebase or salt?

Hello first post, thanks for letting me join. I did this very basic Rue reduction with vinegar as shown in this video

I basically reduced the amount of liquid down as low as I could go and soaked it up into some herbs.
Now i am wondering if this would be freebase extract or hcl? I don't want to hurt my lungs. I never knew there was a difference but i just acquired some harmine its in hydrochloride form and suddenly realized there were two different forms.

I know there are far better teks for extracting harmalas than that video its just I already soaked some herbs in this and wondering if i should throw it out, no spice added yet. Sorry i tried searching for answers I know nexus hates newbies asking same things over and over

It sounds like it’s probably a salt, more than likely an acetate, considering you are using vinegar.

But as loveall said, a description of the process would be better than a video on our end, and im sure at least loveall will be able to answer you with confidence. :thumb_up:

As just vinegar was used and no base was added during the process, alkaloids are in acetate salt form.
Do not really know whether it is possible to smoke it, probably yes, but definitely better to ingest it orally.

Extraction of harmala alkaloids in freebase form is quite easy, you can still do it even with your soaked herbs.

I watched the video and agree with the others that you'd be better off describing what you did. Incidentally, for oral use you'll get far more palatable results by toasting the seeds first and leaving out the vinegar. Lately, I've been grinding my seeds after toasting and treating it like coffee, although I do do two or three pulls to maximise the extraction yield.

OP, your infused herb is probably smokeable because it is possible to achieve some level of effects simply by smoking the seeds themselves. Salts of harmine in particular, with organic acids will dissociate fairly easily as harmine is such a weak base.

[*Pedant's corner* One further point, "very basic rue reduction" could be misinterpreted by a chemist as meaning you performed a hydrogenation at very high pH. Chemical (rather than culinary) reduction of rue alkaloids is something worth looking into although it is carried out exclusively under acidic conditions (not counting Birch-type reductions for the true pedants).]
