What are these crystals in my crude Syrian Rue extracts?

Hey,

I finally got my first Syrian Rue extraction in progress. Cooked in slightly acidic solution, basified with NaOH yesterday, but could not get all the liquid through the coffee filter, so I've been letting the wet solids air-dry.

I noticed some small, pure white crystals growing on top of the organic sludge. Anyone know what these are? Sodium acetate? Sodium hydroxide? Alkaloids (too good to be true, probably)?

Probably a stupid question, but it would be the freebase harmalas that precipitate from DMSO, correct? Could the crystals just be rinsed with water to remove leftover DMSO?
Probably, as long as aqueous DMSO remains a poor solvent for harmala alkaloids. Suction followed by a ice cold water rinse should clear it up with minimal losses. I don't think the solubility of harmalas in cold DMSO has been determined yet.

There's also the possible complication of DMSO freezing at 18°C, although that figure will be lower on account of both the dissolved material (=depression of freezing point) and mixing with water.
