is my solvent the reason for bad yield?

Could my solvent be shit?
It is named petroleum ether. Very light flashpoint under 21°
I hope someone knows because I always had the feeling that this stuff cannot hold much of product? Which is the best solvent?

can you get hold of any off the shelf lighter fluid like swan/ronsonal ect, or any hexane/heptane? these all work great.

are you following the tek to the letter?

do you believe your supplier?

can you get a small batch from another supplier to test with your current methods to see if you get the same results?

could it be down to practice?

do you like sugar in your tea?

I dont think the supplier lies, the bark seems thick and old..

can you get a small batch from another supplier to test with your current methods to see if you get the same results?

actually I did jsut a small test before this on 50g mimosa and I didnt look very promising either. It was STB and followed that tek to the letter..

If it's real petroleum ether (aka Wundbenzin or Petrolether in German) with a boiling point (not flash point) of 30 to 40 °C or 40 to 60 °C it's a mixture of pentane and hexane and is perfectly fine. There's a high chance of something being wrong elsewhere in the equation.

Edit: even petroleum ether with a boiling point of 50 to 70 °C contains a big fraction of n-hexane (according to the MSDS of merck-chemicals.com) - which also has a BP of 69°. Better rule your solvent out for being the culprit.

if you failed with MHRB then it is probably something your doing wrong as MHRB is pretty reliable. I guess it could be your solvent but I cant really offer any more help, maybe just keep trying til you get it right.

Next week I try the thichlight A/B with 1kg of bark and some added new solvent... for this week I have done enough of this research
If I follow that to the letter and it does not work, then I guess the bark is bunk no matter what they tell me. :surprised

last time I used cybs tek with salt and defat. Only that I cooked the material down before.

if you're going to use an aliphatic solvent, you'd do well using something with a higher b.p. range, like 95-160C, which is basically VM&P Naphtha. the lower b.p. solvents (pentane and hexane) are typically used for recrystallization.

yes benzyme I just got me some new solvent that is more like you said. Did evap and its clean and good. Cant wait to see what happens with it

it's a good practice to warm the solvent slightly (in a hot water bath), to increase solubility. this should optimize yields. three pulls is adequate, but you can do more if you wish.
people then tend to freeze the solvent, so crystals will precipitate from the cold solvent.

you can try pulling with an aromatic like xylene, toluene, or limonene.

from there you can leave the goo as is, or re-x from there.
