I've been trying to come up with a good way to ask, throwing some awesome quotes from the book at you all. Couldn't decide.

Thought about giving my two sense about it, and than seeing what your responces were. Meh.

Have you read this before? I want to see if anybodies heard about it first. If not.. I'll show you a few things.
 
Never heard of it. Great title though....just looked it up and it sounds Phil K Dickian. With a title that attention grabbing and funny, the movie will surely be huge.
 
Ya know.. I've never actually read anything by him.. I don't think. Not much for the classics I suppose. For now.. anyways.
But, I can totally see what you mean by that, and I bet he even gets some influence from his works. Some pretty similar themes, here and there.

I'm glad you think it sounds neat.:) It's a pretty, uhh... unusual book, to say the least. Not many other books, or even movies for that matter, approach the strange, weirdness that he does.

I have this picture that he released before the book came out, as sort of a teaser. It's just the first page and a half, but, it's good.

And THE MOVIE. Now THAT, I can't wait for. I've been looking forward to that since the first time I finished the book, and didn't know what to do with myself for the next two days.
I know David knew what he was doing when he picked the director he did.
This movie should be in a genre of its' own, if Don Coscarelli does it right.

That quote at the begining of the trailer in your post hixidom, that is at the begining of the book too, right before that picture I posted. THAT'S the following riddle.

And.. this movie should be something. Something real real crazy.

As soon as I find the time and willpower to read A book, I will read John Dies At The End.

I have high hopes for this movie as an adequate portrayal of psychedelic experience (I assume that's the nature of the plot). I saw Cloud Atlas a few days ago, thinking it would resonate with me on a psychedelic level, but I was disappointed. Hopefully John Dies At The End will be better. Based on what I have seen in the trailer, I am very excited about it. Hollywood is making such great strides. I know that John was a book first, but I see mainstream movies as markers in cultural history, and I'm seeing lots of signs that a new psychedelic age is dawning.

Anyways, very excited and my hopes are very very high.

And I guess now we know where your forum name came from! 😁 Like Doodazzle said it does sound very Philip K. Dickish. If you haven't read and/or seen A Scanner Darkly, do yourself a favor and make time for one or both of those ASAP. I've got zero doubt you'd love it.
 
It's a fairly good movie if you like that kind of thing.. Has Paul Giamatti in it and he is always fun to watch (I like him as an actor lol). Ignorance admitted I never realised it was based on a book.

I do like the axe/handle analogy (it's in the film also) ;)
 
So... I just finished watching it.

My opinion on the movie:
I have to say I was very very impressed by the first half of the movie, but rather disappointed by the second half. I feel like there was a point in the movie (somewhere just before the mall scene) where the plot went from being very abstract and nonlinear to very linear. The movie went from being a psychological thriller to more light and comedic, and that's where I lost interest in the plot. Perhaps it's just that the second half of the movie seems less psychedelic to me: The first half of the movie is a deep mystery, and the second half explains everything (to the characters, at least) with a really silly scenario. If I take the second half of the movie literally, it's like a cheesy action movie. The second half of the movie just does nothing for me. It is as though it is making fun of itself, and I did not feel that it did the first half of the movie justice.

Maybe it symbolizes something else that I have not realized yet... On second thought, perhaps it is silly on purpose, in order to accentuate the fact that none of the big questions have actually been answered by the end of the movie. I think if I ever watch it again, I'll spend the second half of the movie thinking about what may have really happened in the first half of the movie. Maybe that is the way it is meant to be watched.

EDIT: The more I think about this movie, the more I marvel at its brilliance.
