Lab-grade reagents on eBay?

Migrated topic.

I've noticed that a number of eBay vendors are selling a wide variety of laboratory grade reagents / solvents / etc.

As far as I know, most other chemical vendors will require some sort of permit to sell you those products.

So, I have to wonder how closely customers thereof are being watched. Surely if you're ordering those chemicals, you're being put on some list or another, am I right?

This is a good topic, I was actually wondering the same thing when I came across an ebay vendor selling diethyl ether lol. Very tempting, but it seems too good to be true. Of course, you have to message the vendor stating what you will use it for. Anyone have experience relating to this topic?

If you have nothing to hide and as Sister has said stay below the threshold fine. However, you are asking about lab grade reagents on a DMT forum so erm, you probably shouldn't go for it.

Also there are lists of watched chemicals so don't do anything stupid. E-bay works in full cooperation with law enforcement. I'd like to add that there are sting operations on ebay specifically looking for chemistry k3wls and drug cooks. Know what you're getting in to. Also, I would like to say even if you order something a month goes by and nothing happens. It's not uncommon for a 'follow-up' to occur two years down the line or even longer. Fed's are patient and have essentially unlimitted time and resources to wait for people screw up. Again, know what you're getting in too.

I've made many posts about ordering reagents and I have to say, in general don't do it. If you have to ask you probably don't know enough about it to be doing it.

Kash why would ya buy diethyl ether on ebay? It can be easily prepared, however there are risks involved. Such as, explosive peroxides, looming highly flammable fumes, etc. It's also found in some over the counter products which it can be purified from without too much of a hassle and no paper trail.

If you want a liter of an exotic solvent try going anywhere but ebay. However, if you have a valid reason for purchasing an exotic solvent go right on ahead.

If your ebay purchase history looks anything like:
"HBWR, Mimosa Hostilis rootbark, 100g morning glory seeds, DMT the spirit molecule, turkey baster, 1kg lye" and then you decide to order some acetic anhydride on leobay, all I can say is good luck.

Rofl that made me laugh. Ya you pretty much summed up my thoughts InMotion.

Thresholds change, and change retroactively at times. Particularly with additional 'evidence'.
Before the OK city bombing I was below all the thresholds and not running a drug lab. After the bombing I was raided by the cops, SWAT, HAZMAT, the ATF, and the FBI simultaneously  Some punk kid had a trivial transitory grudge and knew I had a chem lab so he made up a story to tell his mom to get me in shit.
Those guys confiscated my chem lab (several thousands of dollars of gear) as well as books, that stuff was on record. They intentionally trashed my house. They also stole cash, expensive jewelry, and a gold bar- that was not on record. When confronted they said they would manufacture evidence that I was a drug dealer if I complained.

Having a suit and badge doesnt make peoples buddhas and little blue jesuses and being totally innocent is no protection. The less other people know, the better.

Nope, thankfully no charges. I wasnt prepared to see if they were bluffing tho so I just accepted my losses and got high so I wouldnt mind the mess they left

I still wonder if theres a file somewhere that says I was investigated as a suspected terrorist. I suppose I'll find out if I ever need to fly to Yemen or something :p

This makes me sad. So they just busted into your home, messed it up, stole your valuable possessions, stole your lab gear, and you had nothing actually illegal and you have to live with that? Where is the justice? I would consult a lawyer and think of suing. What is to say you couldnt be a private practice chemist?

It was too long ago to sue now (the oakie bombing was 1992, lol) and cops are good at not leaving evidence of their crimes 😉
As with 9/11 even a thousand miles away people were all addled and disproportionately frantic. Despite the ideals spoke of in the highest laws, working class people can rarely achieve justice when trying to sue an inter-agency law enforcement operation in rational times. When the peoples fragile eggshell minds crack under TV's influence in bad times its often safest to choose ones battles (and ebay purchases) very carefully.

Haha! I know what the topic author means about wondering if they are legit. Damn I wanna scoop up some of the acetic anhydride but I dont give a shimp about thresholds. If I was 2 order it, the feds arent gonna be 2 far behind. I pretty much garauntee it.:(

I wouldn't. There are foodsafe teks for practically any molecule you could want to extract, and they just involve things that you can pay cash for at the grocery store.

Now, if you WANT to do some more intensive chemistry, that's your choice, but it seems kind of unnecessary at this point.

Blessings

Under the Freedom of Information Act various agencies are required to provide this information to you:

FBI Records Request
CIA FOIA Request
NSA Privacy Act Request
Ever filed for that info? Freedom of Information Act requests notoriously take forever, if they're completed. I submitted one three years ago, and have yet to hear a damn thing despite a yearly letter. It's been that way since the 60's, apparently.

Would stick to ordering only relatively commonplace stuff. Most desired solvents and reagents can be made from pretty simple, common compounds with a little extra work..and if not, then there are often better ways to accomplish the ultimate goal you wish to accomplish.

In any reaction, think about what you are trying to actually do..and find a solution that allows you to do it without having to resort to doing stupid shit like ordering acetic anhydride to your door.

I know this is an old thread, but I have been thinking a lot about this lately. For most Teks that I've seen at least 50% of the precursors are household chemicals, but the others... I would be afraid to order them all at once. I've thought of the following alternatives:
1. Asking friends to help by ordering 1 chemical each so that it is not just one person buying all of them.
2. Have an acquaintance buy all of the chemicals; at least then the person buying the chemicals is not the same person performing the Tek.
3. Order them all but space the orders out over a couple months.
4. Order all of the chemicals at the same time and then wait 6 months before using them.

Anyways, my gut says "F%!@* it. There is nothing illegal about buying these chemicals", but throwing caution to the wind is never a good idea, especially when so much is at stake.

EDIT: The following links were helpful I think (perhaps a bit out of date though).
