Laughter on DMT vs LSD, Shrooms :

I have yet to try DMT but soon I will be trying it for the first time! *gulp*

I plan on smoking 10 - 15 mg for my first dose, just so I can get sort of a feel for it, then up it when ready, nice and easy. I think with 10-15 mg I am likely to avoid an unexpected lv 4 or 5 trip that breaks me though when I am not ready!

I have a question that I do not find mentioned that much.

Does DMT give you the giggles on low doses like mushrooms and LSD do?

I remember tripping mildly on some nice fresh p.cubensis Cambodians and my gf put on some Eddie Izzard, now I do not normally rate him as a comic, he is not my style. But on shrooms he was hilarious!

I found him so funny I ended up on the floor curled round a table leg listening to him (as I could not see the TV being on the floor with a serious case of the giggles) and laughing so much, 2 hours I think without a break, that there was a small pool of tears on the floor from me laughing so hard.

Can this sort of thing happen on DMT?

Does DMT give you the giggles?
Does laughing on DMT change the trip?
Does laughing on DMT change the visuals?

Well in my own experience, I have never really had much of the giggles on DMT. My preferred way is to make Ayahuasca and it seems, maybe much more solemn than the other psychedelics. This is not a bad thing, nor does it imply that the experience is scary. But it is just a higher level experience in which one is not really focused on worldly things like things that can be funny. However this is just from my perspective and it may or may not be the same for you or anyone else. I have never had it but that certainly does not mean it is impossible, just keep and open mind and heart, it will show you only what you need to see;and if that means some laughter, your wish my be granted. :thumb_up:

What you say makes total sense as DMT appears to be much more a spiritual experience as apposed to LSD.

I hope it shows me something special, I am going to take it literally 15 - 20 mins after I come out of 1 hours meditation

Usually the only laughter I have on DMT is after I come back from the experience. That is the first few moments I begin trying to integrate what in the world had just occurred.

DMT isn't like LSD or mushrooms in that you really aren't going to be interacting with your friends, or anything really. If you don't let go, you can usually somewhat function in a very odd state. But the best DMT experiences usually come from when you let go, surrender and just let what happens happen. From my experience if you take enough there becomes a point its nearly impossible to hold on. But at lower dosages sometimes you may be able to fight to stay with reality, however its usually not a pleasant experience or it just simply ends up dulling most of the effects.

Well I was thinking of trying a really low dose first just to get a feel for it

10mg - 15mg or maybe 20mg just to see how it integrates with my body and mind then up the dose when ready.

I was wondering if it is possible to integrate this into an awake experience, meaning by the side of a lake with a friend eyes open sitting down on the grass.

I was thinking, will this give me the giggles, but this thread has answered that

If you do this outside, be sure you have a sitter. There was a very tragic case around a year ago on these forums where a member lost a friend due to DMT and falling into the water.

After smoking you will likely lose most control over your body. It has an effect of making you feel very very heavy, and makes movement of any sort difficult. You should be sitting down, and be ready to lay back into a comfortable position. I usually find I prefer darker rooms, with maybe a candle, and a good pillow/blanket. I close my eyes, and just try to not focus on anything, and just observe what unfolds. Remember the effect will come on within 30-45 seconds, and most of the effect will be gone within 5-10 minutes. This is a very sharp profile in-comparison to LSD or mushrooms.

15-20mg if you manage to get lucky and vaporize it effectively (which can be quite a trick), is a pretty good dosage.

Be careful, and I hope your first experience is a pleasant one!

So tragic to hear about the death by drowning on DMT, I can only imagine how terrifying that must of been combined with the drug itself.

I was planning on lying down on the grass and smoking some with a friend (it is quite an isolated spot we have chosen). We are planning to vape the spice and then gaze across the lake!

You are right about a sitter, We will have a sitter present that being my gf, who will not let us near the water! it will be about 10 meters away from us so we should be safe!

I find that sometimes the entities can make me laugh while on dmt.

I've had a few giggle fits on low doseages too. Nothing like the laughing and giggles from lsd/shrooms tho.

I remember once having a good laugh on the comedown of a light DMT trip (a 10-15 mger actually), just because of the sheer absurdity and realism of the mental connections my brain was creating. At some point, I just couldn't resist and burst into laughter.

However, I have to note that it wasn't that chaotic kind of laughter which come with shrooms or lsd. It was more like a fulfilling laugh, a more conscious one. I was very aware of what was being presented to me, I knew it seemed soooo out there at the time, and yet there I was witnessing the whole scene.

that's close to something i'm curious about, the social thing, taking DMT in a group -- there doesn't seem to be the hyperawareness of others that can happen with LSD

When I'm with my friends on LSD, it can be some of the most gut-busting moments in history where I end up with tears streaming down my face because the hilarity train won't stop. As the others have mentioned, DMT isn't really a social drug. Even if you do it around other people, you're still likely to get so caught up in your own trip that such laughter fits aren't all too common. I've had humorous things happen in hyperspace before, causing me to laugh, but not in an hysterical fit. But even when you compare it to Salvia for example, Salvia is known and has a tendency to promote outbursts of laughter even more spontaneously than LSD or mushrooms, but DMT doesn't seem to have this tendency for some reason.

I've never giggled on DMT like I have on LSD or shrooms. Shrooms have me giggling like a madman sometimes - and at totally inappropriate things & times haha.

funny story below ...


We were all tripping (bunch of 5 men all friends) on a moderate amount of shroom a couple of years back. One of the friends who is smaller than the rest of us was having a heavier trip than the rest.... all of a sudden shook his head really quick and made a turky sound and said he felt like a turkey who had pissed himself! (he actually thought ha had lost control of his bladder)

Then a different friend added that he must of been born in turkey town, then pretended to call a doctor asking for a man sized nappy for a leaky turkey.

That was it, all where laughing rolling around for about 20 mins at his man sized nappy for a leaky turkey reference....

it dosnt sound that funny now, but when on shrooms it was hilarious!

Hahaha - I know what you mean about it not seeming as funny when you're sober...

A while back some friends and I were hanging around while on LSD and decided to start writing jokes (as if we were comedians?). At the time, these were without a doubt the most HILARIOUS jokes any of us had ever heard! The next day though, it was like... "Wait... we thought THAT was funny?!"

It's something about being in that certain head-space that just amplifies humor to some amazing level. That's actually one of my favorite things about tripping - the L A U G H T E R

Acid laughter:

30+ years ago my best friend and I were tripping in a very old graveyard (there are a few graves in there from people who were born in the late 1500s). With absolutely no warning or trigger that I can think of I suddenly saw a HUGE clown face stretch up and halfway across the sky, all stretched out and distorted, and it was laughing and grinning. This all took place in about the shortest period of time I think a brain can register, like a very small fraction of a second.

I immediately collapsed in a fit of overwhelming laughter that just shook and rocked and rippled my whole body in spasms. Absolutely uncontrollable, it was like I had seen the funniest thing in the whole universe and was just swept away by it all. After a few minutes I looked over and my friend was also on the ground absolutely in hysterics. When I could finally form words again I asked him if he saw that and he said yes. I asked him what he saw and he said he saw some kind of a face but that it was all distorted and laughing. I didn't prompt him to say anything specific, but he basically described the same thing I saw. We were still laughing and probably did so for another 10 or 15 minutes. :lol: :lol: :? :surprised

To this day I have no real explanation for what happened, but it was like we had an apparition of some spirit of cosmic humor of some sort. I'm almost laughing just describing it right now. It was truly amazing how fast it happened, I think I saw it and was on the ground in less than half a second.

I have had lots of good acid laughs, in fact I've always said the most uncomfortable thing about LSD is that my face hurts afterwards from smiling and laughing for 8 or 12 hours straight.

Laughter is good for the soul.

Usually not, but if you're with the right group of people, and they enjoy DMT as well, then everyone low dosing around a camp fire or the beach is really nice.

I will never forget when me and my girlfriend had a marathon night of smoking DMT. She had a serious case of DMT giggles. WHILE she was broking through and after she laughed so much so she cried and almost couldn't breathe. It was absolutely hilarious, she went on for almost an hour with one trip at one point. She didn't say it changed anything about the trip, she just thought the experience was the funniest thing she had been apart of. Good stuff.

Ayahuasca can be pretty funny sometimes and it does this for a reason: healing. Sure, when it peaks and you are somewhere else unable to express anything, it seems more serious and introvert.
The group energy can be heavy sometimes, but when somebody is happy and laughs, it can be so infective, that the whole room explodes in laughter.

In one ceremony there was this bear like Australian, he drank two cups, but he was kind of slow and started to retch violently when all others where already through (at the end of the ceremony).
He was trying to force some demons out of his body (seriously stressed), when somebody made a joke.
One candle was already lit, so we could barely see whats going on.
The Australian got caught in the laughter and started laughing himself while retching.
The sounds he made gave everybody the rest. The room exploded. Everybody was laughing.
He vomited all over his bucket in an projectile vomit fashion, missing his bucket mostly.
Then he grinning from ear to ear while puke was still dripping from his lips.
The laughing energy was almost unbearable. My whole body was shaking, my stomach hurted, and even the shamans couldn't keep their composure.
When everybody calmed down eventually, the Australian was through his process and let out an huge sigh of relief, which started the whole laughter process anew.
Whenever the laughing ebbed down, something would come up and the whole thing repeated.
No chance to escape it.
It felt overwelming, like an force.


When i spoke to the Australian later, he told me that the he had some serious problems through the whole ceremony, he couldn't let go of his anger and frustration, he was suffereing because he couldn't purge.
When we all where laughing he said the energy of the room made it easy, almost forced him to let go.
He had a vision of an jungle full with animals, plants and spirits and all where laughing/dancing, with him in the center.

In an Ayahuasca ceremony, the group is an important factor. The effect people around have on you should not be underestimated.
