Lime from Lowes

SWIM went to Lowes and found Naptha with no problem. The lime on the other hand was in the garden section. It is definitely lime, but it has a calcium (Ca) added. I wasn't sure if this was a problem? Is there another application for lime? Also went to the cement department expecting to see if it as an additive to cement. When asked, the masonary dept. employee looked bewildered.
SWIM is chomping at the bit to do his 1st extraction and even more so to do his first dose....
 
SWIM also found a 2 quart and large rice cookers. SWIM noticed teflon coating. Does SWIM want to replace the coated pan?
 
SWIM uses a non-stick rice-cooker and nothing visible is in the vend product, nor any wear on the pot, but can't say anything for sure about the safety of it.

As for the lime it's hard to tell for sure. A lot of the garden "lime" products are not lime. Pickling lime seems to be very consistant in being Ca(OH)2 though.

SWIM was thinking worst case senerio being I just use a stainless bowl in the pot, SWIM is just looking for a double boiler apperatus/function to serve it's purpose in this TEK.

The back of the package has the % breakdown and as I recall it was 99% Ca(OH)2 and 1%Ca.

Does it really matter what is used for basifying, or is that critical? SWIM was assuming that it was a PH level that was trying to be acheived in order to create DMT freebase? SWIM maybe way off base (wouldn't be the first time).

SWIM's current mindset is "tried & true" until such time "tried & truer" comes along.

As a side note SWIM saw Calcium Hydroxide on Ebay for like $2.00 for 2 lbs. SWIM hates to wait.

My SWIM suggests you reconsider using 'garden lime'. 'Garden lime' is typically CaCO3 (ground limestone AKA calcium carbonate). The word lime is used for a few different chemicals which aren't interchangable. What you probably want is called 'pickeling lime' (Calcium hydroxide). As an alternative, using lye is a simple and easy way to extract. If you find "100% Lye" drain cleaner at your local hardware store, it will work well. Just don't spill it on yourself because it is a strong base.

If you choose lime, you can find pickeling lime wherever home canning supplies are sold.

Using the wrong base may cause interferences as your extraction proceeds. I'm not sure if CaCO3 would work.

Thanks SWIM will appreciate it! SWIM had his hands on lye. I am glad SWIM can use either. I see a bunch of calcium hydroxide on ebay. I will look a little more closely locally first.

SWIM found pickling lime 1 block from home! YIPEE! SWIM thinks he has it all in place now.
 
A Builders yard or masonry store or something similar should offer unadulterated calcium hydroxide as hydrated lime. It's used to produce mortar - in the UK at least. Tends to be sold in large quantities and you may only find 25kg sacks,but it's cheap enough to have a lifetime's supply.
