After a bit of research into AMPA agonists/ligands
I came across this interesting article that showed the antidepressant quality of PGM from maitake mushrooms.
doi:10.1038/srep28395 The Prefrontal Dectin-1/AMPA Receptor Signaling Pathway Mediates The Robust and Prolonged Antidepressant Effect of Proteo-β-Glucan from Maitake - Scientific Reports
It's now been discovered that ketamine relieved symptoms of depression by the activation of AMPA
receptors The Prefrontal Dectin-1/AMPA Receptor Signaling Pathway Mediates The Robust and Prolonged Antidepressant Effect of Proteo-β-Glucan from Maitake - Scientific Reports
Of course this doesn't always translate from mice to humans.
Thoughts?
I Wonder firstly what the bioavailability would be from brewed or raw Maitake and secondly if there would be enough PGM
in a reasonable bulk supply rather than having to use kilograms of the stuff every time.
Another avenue of research is cordycepin from
Cordyceps militaris

3'-Deoxyadenosine (Cordycepin) Produces a Rapid and Robust Antidepressant Effect via Enhancing Prefrontal AMPA Receptor Signaling Pathway - PubMed
This study identified 3'-dA as a novel rapid antidepressant with clinical potential and multiple beneficial mechanisms, particularly in regulating the prefrontal AMPA receptor signaling pathway.
