let me just put you to where im at now.

200 grams of powdered bark.

2 liters of water with 2 cups of pickling lime dissolved into it gets poured on top.

let it sit for 3 hours.

poured and stirred for an hour some naptha into the mix.

pulled it out and.....nothing from the evap. not one.

after reading some more teks i tried again with some minor changes and more time and...nothing

read a few more teks and it seemed i wasnt agitating it enough so i shook in a bottle.

well that didn't go well and it wouldn't separate. so i added some more hot water and looked at the mess i had made.



so here i am now. i have a gallon jar with 4 distinct layers in it.

the first layer is clear naptha

the second layer is dark brown foamy scum

third layer *this one gives me hope* is a combo of water and naptha that is piss yellow in color. i pulled some out with a turkey baster and it will ignite for a moment so im sure there is a lot of naptha in it but it wont stay alight. maybe only due to impurities?

last layer is slightly less dark brown sludge.

i added a little sea salt to try and get it to seperate with no luck


where do i go from here? 2 completely failed pulls and a hell of a mess left.

Are you following any tek in particular?

Add loads of sea salt, not just a little. Also you can add some sodium carbonate, which will react with calcium hydroxide to form sodium hydroxide, making the pH raise and helping with separation.

Next time dont shake, rather stir in round motions with some (unvarnished) wood or stainless steel spoon. And be sure to wear goggles/gloves.

i was just following several teks and picking and choosing. not smart but i would have really liked to have had some spice by tomorrow for a friend whos visiting from out of state.
edit: mostly the lazy man/ everyman guide but using lime instead of lye.


what do you make of this layer of yellow slighly flamable fluid? just naptha that has soaked up a lot of stuff from bark and is no longer super flamable or water and naptha mixed.

like i said it will light for a moment and if i could just get that layer and freeze it that would just make my day.
also i just added more sea salt and put it in a warm water bath.

Sounds like you have an emulsion issue to me. How much "extra" hot water did you add this could have lower your Ph too much so I would add some sodium carbonate to increase it back to acceptable levels. Also you could place your jar in a tub of hot water to help separation, Endlessness already mentioned the salt trick and the fact you don't want to shake your mixture.

It seems weird to me that you'd have naphtha and water mixed, to my knowledge that's impossible. seems more likely you have some naphtha trapped under your emulsion but again that's pretty unheard of. Did you do an evap test on your solvent and check it's MSDS to make sure it was safe to use. You hear of solvent going yellow when it's been left to soak for days or when using plant matter other then mimosa. Personally if I was you I would have just done 100g of mimosa the first time to get the basics down then the rest later just in case a situation like this happened, DMT definitely rewards a little patience.

just wanted to let everyone know that after a liberal amount of sodium carbonate and sea salt AND a hot water bath we have correct seperation. the naptha i pulled has been in the emulsion for over 24 hours.

i have it seperated out into 3 mason jars and we shall see what happens in a day or 2 in the freezer.

if i chose to evap a portion should i still get the same yield? i would like to have some ready by tomorrow but if i just need to be patient then so be it.
