Science paper Meditation, psychedelics, and brain connectivity: A randomized controlled resting-state fMRI study of N,N-dimethyltryptamine and harmine in a meditati

3-day mindfulness meditation retreat? Yeah
I like the study, but it's another one of those “why the grass is green, or the skies are blue?” questions. Anyone could tell them that the DMT & harmine combo would yield results. Mixing meditation in feels more like a marketing move than real scholarship. It would be interesting if they had included some long-term meditators with 15 years of practice behind them. Otherwise, it's just an attention grabber for better grants. The results are exciting, but it's nothing new. I posted the picture because it highlights this ridiculous inclusion of the meditation retreat. Give some DMT to a person who just finished a 3-year retreat, and provide us fMRI data. That would be somewhat intriguing.

@murklan Thank you for sharing. I enjoy reading these studies and seeing how researchers are disconnected from a wider reality. We all need to have some fun.

Yea! I agree and you have valid points. I was mostly glad to see that they were using this combination of MAOI and DMT since this is what I also find most useful (or actually full rue tea). I also like to read and share what the researchers are up to. Not making any definite judgements from it.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Not many like or have time for papers, but I would say it is worthwhile. Some studies are better than others - researchers are bound by university standards and ideals.
It is not like they are exposed to lots of DMT or environments like Nexus. Still, raindrops make an ocean. Someday, we will see more revolutionary experiments, for sure.
I am just glad that we are heading out of the conservative view on these substances. It is still a long way before we even reach the research level of the '60s, imo.
🙏
