Milky but no precipitation

G'day everyone

Have some extracting experience but no decent precipitation success as of yet.

Cutting straight to the issue on hand, evaporated 3 pulls down to what you see in the dish in the picture, also had 2 more high heat pulls still at full volume in the jar. Decided to mix it all up and do a mini a/b so I wasn't working with 2 lots just for the sake of it.
No precip was observed with basing the acid water. Pulls were crystal clear, evaporated it down again, this time no clouding was observed.
I let it go just to see if anything was going to crystallise up and was left with a blob of clear oil.

Now correct me if I'm wrong.....but the clouding of solvent is caused by DMT crashing at a lower temperature as saturation levels increase.

If I observed such a heavy clouding beforehand then how did I manage to extract oil from a mini a/b and loose all the earlier seen precipitation? I thought the whole point of a mini a/b was to remove the oils for a cleaner product.

I didn't take pictures of the results as confusion and thought took over the situation,

Confusion has prevailed 😆

Any thoughts or opinions or criticism extremely welcome

Cheers 🤘

Hey @Ozzy_Chronik

Clouding isn’t neccesarily just caused by DMT crashing out of the solvent. Remember that the clouding is something becoming insoluble in your solvent as it reaches a temperature it can’t stay dissolved. There are probably a lot of things that are soluble in hot naptha that aren’t soluble in cold naptha.

Are you using material confirmed to have DMT? If you are testing a plant, the clouding could be a lot of different things.. although it is often a good indicator of alkaloids. Is there a film at the bottom of the dish? If it were me I’d just evaporate the extract first when testing plants.. if it’s something of interest you can always recrystallize afterwards.
