morning glory reproduction

Hi guys.

I bought some Morning Glory Pearly Gates seeds to start my garden. And I realized that I don't know anything about the reproduction of these plants.

I recently moved from a place where there were many Heavenly Blue morning glories blooming in hedges, but I never found seeds in them... I think they are self-incompatible and probably reproduce by cuttings. Is this statement correct??

I also found some Heavenly Blue Morning Glory seeds on the internet that I intend to buy after planting the Pearly Gates. Would both be able to reproduce?? What would the plants be like??? Would the alkaloid profile of these hybrids still be active??

I grew out a huge Heavenly Blue vine this year and I did not get a single seed. Is there such a thing as a sterile Morning glory?

I've been wondering the same myself, although I have also heard that seed development may be dependent on day length and nighttime temperatures. What were your growing conditions, climate zone, latitude, etc.?

Well, all my other morning glory varieties started blooming from early spring and they just bit the dust a few days ago. They are also all loaded with thousands of seeds.

However, the Heavenly Blues didn't start blooming until the end of October. They were troopers though and they got multiple frosts, but they finally bit the dust just the other day.

I'm thinking that even though I was blessed with hundreds upon hundreds of beautiful blooms, the temp was just too cold for them to produce seeds. This is all I can think of as to why they didn't.

This was just one plant too! When I pulled it up, the stem was like a dang trunk, with huge deep taproots!

I even manged to root some cuttings that are now flowering indoors, but as of yet no seeds pods.

Yes, I dont even have to plant Grandpa Ott seeds. I grew them out the first year, 10 years ago and every year they return all over my whole yard like weeds. I pull hundreds of them every season because they take over my whole garden. Talk about invasive!
