Try and get heptane if you can - it's more forgiving at higher temperatures, since hexane can evaporate off rather too quickly, plus hexane itself presents a neurotoxicity hazard which is prudent to be aware of.
heptane seems a bit harder to source at this stage and h
Eh, what - no!?! Hexane and castor oil are completely different :ROFLMAO:

Castor beans may be dangerously toxic, but that's nothing to do with it! You could, however, possibly use castor oil for an extraction, if you did an A/B and only used sodium carbonate for the base stage. You would then have to recover the alkaloids from the castor oil using an acid (white vinegar would do) and subsequently decide how to clean up your crude acetates.

If you're really struggling to find hydrocarbons and aren't afraid of something a little experimental, you might want to take a look at the vodka/lime method which is currently in development:
Ok thanks so much Transform, I will check it out 🙏

found some heptane at $108 for 500ml Transform..... thinking of going with it? I imagine this will be as the same application as with shellite?

That is probably your best bet if you have the money spare. It functions like expensive shellite, so try to minimise evaporation of it if at all possible (speaking as a hardened tightwad and former eco-warrior)!

lol Transform, Im a bit of a hardened tightwad myself but I tried the spice in 2020.... it was the most profound experience, like I had glimpsed this state before in a peak experience, and also through my research into meditation - I am convinced this is a state we head to. Now, the world is such a mess! I am keen to share the spice with my friends. Its been a bit of a journey sorting through the application and sourcing the materials but I'm ever so close. Thank you very much🙏

Some white vinegar contains sulphites, check the label if that would be of direct consequence to you (e.g., asthmatic).
Thanks Transform.. I wasn’t aware of that. Are the complications of sulphites just a health issue or are there potential extraction issues too?

Baz.. good luck with it all. Your passion around the experience will no doubt yield many awesome journeys to come!

Some people are sensitive or allergic to sulphites, but also I'm of the view that there's no particular reason to introduce an unnecessary compound into the equation. In this case, the effect would probably be negligible but there's always the risk that an unexpected byproduct could mess things up. For example, sulfites react with carbonyl compounds like aldehydes or ketones to produce adducts which would tend to have surfactant (detergtent-like) properties and could thus lead to increased chances of emulsion formation. It only takes a small amount of detergent to mess things up.
