Hey guys and gals!

Do you have any music you like to listen when you have a date over at your place, whether it is something playing softly while you are talking or having dinner, or in bed? :D

Please send any recommendations of albums, playlists or songs, it will be very appreciated

Jose Gonzales. Nice background music, and amazing listening music at the same time. Non intrusive. All his albums are very good, In Our Nature particularly so. Acoustic music is generally a safe option that most people can enjoy, even if they haven't heard it before.

just kidding, usually play Geogaddi by Boards Of Canada often times with great success. Provides a great atmosphere without being distracting or sending the listener too far inward.

We really dig the stuff that Pandora channels for Air and Morphine turn up. Maybe with some Portishead or something mixed in. Pretty, but non-intrusive for a whole range of situations. Lovage is cool too, but it's kinda like breaking out the Barry White lol.

Morphine has a really smooth film-noir thing and incredible unique musicianship that has kept them as a favorite since I first heard them in the mid-90's. Who couldn't vibe into slide bass and sax, really?

(PS. I forget every time- how do I embed vids?)

That's funny, I was also going to make the same joke ('The Dillinger Escape Plan would be perfect' ) but also recommend Geogaddi - might have to skip The Devil is in the Details though, that's usually the point where people say 'just what are we listening to?'.

Such a masterpiece.

Lol about geogaddi. 1969 is soooooooooo good though.

For me, it always boils down to 2 things. 1: it is something that ties me and my dates identities together, a mutual thread so to speak 2: it is kind of gender ambigious (like david bowie, talking heads, portishead, air, etc)

It's hard to explain, but when someone in such an intimate scenario puts on a song that ties way more into either person in particular, I feel a weird sort of awkward pressure. It's hard to explain, kind of like one person is drowning out the conversation or something. Music that everyone can get down with and be comfortable with always ends up being music that we either both already listen to (this is the case most of the time) or something catchy and not overtly masculine or feminine like the Beatles. Never trust anyone who doesn't like the Beatles! Sometimes music that is too heady or whatever you want to call it can be too strange and distracting in date type scenarios. You're not there to trance out to crazy music! Well, most of the time anyways...

Some of my favorites in no particular order: The Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Portishead (Dummy FTW), Todd Rundgren, Stevie Wonder, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Talking Heads, Love, Mac Demarco, Led Zeppelin...

Maybe some Al Green or Marvin Gaye when it goes there!

The Dinner Jazz channel on Pandora is great for relaxation and the Indie Rock channel for more upbeat hanging out music.

For dates where my partner and I meditate, we usually put on Russill Paul or Chinese Classical.

Yes, +1 to anything by Air. Moon Safari, and Talkie Walkie are great albums.

Also, for the bedroom, you can't go past...

Zero7 totally deserves an honorable mention in this thread. Pretty much all their stuff, but Sia's vocal performance on the song Destiny is something else.
