my freezer and the smell of naptha

Migrated topic.

a friend of mine told me that my freezer is going to reek of naptha and that my ice cubes are going to taste like dmt...

any truth to this?

Oh yes this most definitely true. Any food I had in the freezer during this time, including meat and ice cream tasted like naphtha afterwards. It was not the first initial taste but the taste that you burp up later. Not pleasant. I would recommend covering your dish in saran wrap and then putting a lid on it if possible, this may cut down on the release of the smell into everything else.

If you live in a snowy area, put it outside, that works very nicely.

Why not get yourself a cooler box and fill it with ice and salt (like a home made ice cream maker) and freeze precip with that? It should cool down to about -21C.

Don't know how long it will last though ( should be quite a long time with a decent cooler box).

Was going to try this myself (as my freezers are full of food) but decided to go FASA.

Why not just use a mason jar?

I use 1/2 pint mason jars for most of my naphtha workings. Getting that last bit of basified water out - mason jar. Freeze precipitating - mason jar with the lid on. Recrystalizing - mason jar, with paper towel and metal lid ring to seal it.

My freezer has never smelled like naphtha, ever.

Happened to SWIM tbh, The only solution is to throw out all affected foodstuffs, and clean the freezer from top to bottom.

all I can say is make sure that your freeze precips are DEFINATELY sealed, tightly, in something like a mason jar as acolon_5 said,
and definatley don't just put glasses of naptha sitting uncovered, or even lightly with tinfoil, in your freezer.

as for burping up the taste? never experienced that: but it did stick a horrible aftertaste (which you get on exhalation; like tasting a wine)

I noticed this could have went in the noob section, I feel like an ass because I use message boards alot and I know better. so sorry about that.

Anyway, the people in the house with swim, thank you all very much for your info and help.
