SWIM has access to both solvents but n-heptane is twice as expensive. Does it make any difference yield-wise if he uses the less expensive isomer mixture. Both are lab grade chemicals.
Sound like you've got better access to chems than most on this board. I doubt if anyone will have enough experience to be able to comment on which is better. You could test them both out and enlighten the rest of us.
SWIM will test both and report. After reading a wiki article on heptane (Heptane, as well as its many isomers, are widely applied in laboratories as a totally non-polar solvent.) he is quite optimistic.
