naphtha solution in the UK!!!

Migrated topic.

Ok. I have read so many different things on the topic of which naphtha is best to use when doing extractions in the UK (and the rest of Europe possibly). So many people say "white spirit" is good, such as "Bartoline Low Odor White Spirit". Which did work, but takes forever to dry and at the third pull it's pretty useless.

I tried zippo, perma, and even barbeque lighting fluid... all ok but low yields. I finally found the best stuff to use... Rosonol lighter fluid! I have just made the largest crystals i have seen in real life. The yields are amazing!

The only problem with Rosonol is the price: £1.50 for 133ml. It is worth it though. You can also recycle the naphtha if freezing, so you don't need to get more than 2 bottles for every 100g of mimosa.

I hope this helps people who are really indecisive about what naphtha to use... trust me... Rosonol is the best!

I´ve once used some naphtha that had 3% aromatics (xylene) and the freeze precipitation barely worked (just a bit of crystals precip even after pre-evapping down significantly).

After evapping it I recovered some pretty cool looking crystals (and some goo/wax) as attached.

Thanks downwardsfromzero. The link I posted should have been to low odour bartoline white spirt - sent me to a sign up page when I tried it today, so I deleted it.

I don’t think solvents containing aromatics should be considered a preferred source. As per endlessness’ post, they can lead to complications. It seems that the only real benefit is price per litre, but lighter fluid is hardly what I would consider expensive, especially for low volume extractions. (Ronsonol is actually available in pound stores in the uk)

I can’t find any safety data online for swan light despite further searching, however there is a thread describing experiences of nausea when doing high frequency low doses of spice from a swan LF extraction. Recrystallisation using ronsonol seemed to improve their experience though: UK Naphtha: Swan or Ronsonol lighter fluid? - Welcome discussion - Welcome to the DMT-Nexus

Bull brand and Newport lighter fluid, based on their SDS’ appear to be VM&P naphtha repackaged as lighter fluid:

hi spacegandalf, so the newport would be a good one to use then if it is VM&P naphtha repackaged?
im in ireland so wouldn't have the largest of choices.
getting my gear together for my first pull, so want the right stuff.

Hi Kopitedavo

Check out your equivalent of a Poundland, those types of shops normally have stock on the shop floor so you can easily check the labelling. Your local news agents will carry stock, but normally behind the counter. If you want you can say something about wanting to check the label because you need it for stamp collecting/air fix model/watch repair if you feel “prang”.

Zigzag brand lighter fluid is labelled light naphtha and will definitely do the job.

Hello everyone.

Gonna do my first extraction, but finding naphtha here is not easy(EU).
So,i got this options.

1) use powerfuel, according to sds should be -(39%naphtha,39%pentane,22%n-heptane)

2) Petroleum benzin from a local chem distributor.Should be pure naphtha, but i think it's not.

msds on site didn't match exactly.

On the bottle: BP 65-92c, CAS 101316-46-5 , EC 309-852 . H225,H304,H350,H361,373 (H350 is a bit scary).

3) Try to find something clean.
