Naptha as the solvent for Changa?

Migrated topic.

So, it's recommended that you use Acetone to infuse your changa with the actives. I assume this is because the acetone will evaporate and leave nothing of it behind.

My question is this: Can you use naptha for this process? When extracting the DMT (in the STB tek, anyway) you use naptha because it will evaporate away clean. Or you need to make sure this will happen before you use it! If you infuse your leaf mix with DMT dissolved in naptha, won't it evap away cleanly?

If I'm missing something please feel free to point it out, but it seems like I could use the same solvent for both steps. Just a thought.

Naphta seems to get stuck into the leaf and not evap as cleanly as acetone, avtually alot of people melt their dmt with acetone to get naphta residue out of the crystals.

Ahh, very interesting. Well, if I do an extraction, I may have to save a gram or two of DMT to make Changa and buy the leaves I want to use / acetone when I get around to doing that. I was just looking to be cost effective, and I'm a broke bastard. Thanks for clearing that up, SHroomtroll!

you can use IPA if you don't have acetone on hand. I personally wouldn't use naphtha but you could. just make sure to let it evaporate until the changa is bone dry.

I have never used naphtha or IPA because acetone works like a charm. My friend was an eager beaver and didn't want to have to get some acetone (shop was shut). HE used naphtha and didn't seem to dissolve the spice all that well and clumps of goo balls were left on the outside of some of the leaves. Not sure if it was because of a crude extract, but i am pretty sure if he used acetone he would have been a happier camper.

Yeah, the acetone seems to infuse the leaves. I can understand the difference, now. I will go to the extra effort and get the acetone before making changa.

Cappi alkaloids will have poor solubility in naptha, even dmt has poor solubility in naptha. It takes large volumes of naptha to dissolve dmt.

Sister prefers to use an alcohol because of the low odour when evapping off the solvent. Acetone is OK if you have a garage or somewhere outside of your living space to evaporate the solvent.

Naptha is solvent of choice here because it won't pick up very much other than DMT. Other solvents, like DCM, Chloroform or Ether will extract all kinds of other impurities which you then need to deal with via further A/B extractions, recrystalizations, distillations etc.

With naptha there are still impurities but they are fewer than with other extraction solvents

ive tried it when I was out of acetone and I will never make that mistake again. It takes a long time to evaporate and it takes a lot more solvent to dissolve the spice.

Just use vodka. It is A) Cheap B) You can buy it anywhere C) Friendlier and less smely than most solvents D) can also be mixed with other drinkable liquids to make a pleasant drink!

Seriously guys, throw your crystal in the vodka and heat it up a little if that is your preferred method.

People use IPA a lot but is that any better than ethanol? I have access to very cheap denaturated ethanol but only very expensive IPA.
So can't I just use the ethanol?

denatured ethanol is often mixed with dyes and all kinds of other nasty shit swim wouldn't want to smoke. ISO alcohol is a little more aggressive of a solvent then ethanol on plants material for extractions, however there shouldn't be much of a difference in infusing leafs for changa. swim uses ethanol.

I have denaturated ethanol that's 99.6% ethanol and evaporates perfectly. I guess the 0.4% is just methanol. If it evaporates totally I shouldn't be too worried should I?

It's totally clear. And it actually doesn't say it's denaturated, but it says don't drink so I guess the 0.4% is methanol.

IPA is slower to dry than ethanol. Ethanol is ideal to use, but is expensive and often hard to get in many places, hence why Vodka is preferable most of the time.

I would not smoke changa that had naptha used as the solvent. I have evaporated naptha and it leaves shit behind.

I always thought naptha evaporated clean..... I've smoked lots of dmt that came from evaporating saturated naptha in a pan.

I did at one point get naptha with a rust inhibiting additive that had a blue tint to it but other than that I thought naptha was supposed to be ok when fully evaporated but if it isn't I think that more awareness of the fact is called for.

I always use IPA thats had crushed cappi soaking in it for a year for my changa though.
