The way I usually do it is to put a coffee filter over a different jar and pour the naphtha through that. Then let the filter and the origianal jar dry off all the way and collect your crystals

Doing a ammonia wash should wash away this.

Make sure its non-sudsy ammonia that has been chilled a little bit. Put the DMT into a filter and poor a small amount of ammonia over them.
