official extraction help thread

Migrated topic.
I tried to do a tek which called for boiling bark in water with sodium carbonate, and adding a half cup of vegetable oil per 50g of root bark. working with acacia confucia. it said to heat for extended period, then take vegetable oil and put in a water/vinegar mixture and repeat multiple times with fresh vinegar water mixture each time. well, i attempted this and the oil layer was too hard to separate. i ended up trying to pull with naptha out of the basified water and ended up wasting what i attempted to use, so i just evaporated everything and ended up with a very black chunky powder. anyway to salvage anything from the black powdery mess? on a better note i found the tek using sodium carbonate and IPA, and it worked rather well, i just haven't figured out dosage yet. to purify this would i want to use more IPA to get out the excess SC or could i use some naptha?
I know what resulted of this method is active, but i have not tried to achieve a break through yet. I'm not sure how much to use, or if i should clean it first.

If its crystals then its clean enough. If its goo then I would suggest letting it sit in hot naptha for 5 mins then pouring off the naptha and letting it freeze precipitate. That will be pretty clean and smokable.

Use orions tek. It'll be better for you. And do more than one vinegar boil, do 3 or 4.
Thanks for reply, I've ordered 50g of MHRB powder. Also what did you mean by doing 3 or 4 vinegar boils? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm pretty new to chemistry and this stuff.

The tek suggests mixing water and and vinegar and letting it simmer then removing it and basifying it. Instead of doing the vinegar boiling step once, do it three times before basifying.

Ah, alright, got it now. I'll just boil it for hour or so, then let it sit for while and then just repeat it 3 times. This should do I guess. Thanks for your time, I greatly appreciate it.

Be careful not to boil too much, unless your boiling your bark at room temperature under vacuum, i'd just keep your extract nice and warm in a water bath.

Hydrochloric acid is really good also, adjust to PH4 and do 3 times@45mins each.

But i'm new and there are so many teks, so all the best!:)

Yeah, I think I'll just gently simmer it. And I am also new there, so welcome I guess ^^

How many ml's of Xylene should be used to pull 1 gram of DMT?

The size and amount of your pulls, regardless of the solvent you're using, should depend on the amount of organic material you start from and (to a much lesser extent) the volume of the aqeous solution it's sitting in...

When x amount of solvent can dissolve y aount of dmt, this does not mean that x amount of solvent will be able to pull y amount of dmt from a basic solution...

If you read some teks that use xylene as a solvent you will get a good idea of what ratio of organic material/aqeous solution/solvent to use...

Hope this helps (which it probably won't) ;)

Is it okay if i use a plastic container for the freeze precip ?

I am currently doing an extraction on 50 gr of mhrb with 200 ml solvent (zippo lighter fluid) - 4 pulls X 50 ml ? I'm going to combine all the pulls in one container for freeze precip because of freezer space issues. So can i use a platic tupperware-type container? I have a glass baking dish that i can use instead, but it would be harder to seal-wrap it tightly, as for the plasic container has a lid that fits pretty tight and i will isolate it additionally? I don't want to contaminate my fridge? Is it okay if i use that plastic container or the solvent could dissolve it?

No...simple answer to that...
It will work...but scraping the xtals off will be a nightmare and will invariably scrape some plastic of into the mix...

Just use a jam jar if you can't find a glass, flat bottomed dish. 😉
Food wrap and an elastic band is fine for a seal

I assumed it won't be easy to scrape crystals off plastic, and was afraid that solvent could dissolve plastic, but wanted to check here with more experienced people like you! Yes, my initial plan is to use that flat glass baking dish and seal it food-wrap and elastic bands :)

Thanks for your help, Cyb! Feedback appreciated! :)

I would read a few more Tek's, but don't use Zippo lighter fluid, get Diggers Shellite if you can. I wouldn't do 4 pulls x50ml, do 2 pulls x100ml, then 50ml for your last, so 3 pulls should be enough. But when i thought i'd pulled enough, i kept getting more, so see how you go.

Never use plastic. Should always be glass if you can. Get yourself some nice lab grade glass beakers and a few glass stirring rods.:)
