visual perception is more complicated than auditory perception so when we have mental problem we need to understand whats reality and what can we do...seeing the world around us doesn't help as much as hearing voices which tell us what to do and what we are.

i don't think it's ALOT more complicated but there's FAR FAR FAR more data.
