Plastic incident

Hello,

So we had a couple of unfortunate events. The first one being the breakage of one of our jars (gradual heating seems to be more crucial than we thought!). We have managed to save pretty much all of the contents by placing them in another glass container, though one which is not all too suitable for our needs. It has a very wide surface and no way to properly cover it.

Which brings me to our second problem. Before leaving the house for a while, we decided to do our best to prevent naphtha evaopration. Our poorly chosen method was to firstly cover the top with a stretchable plastic wrap and a loosely fitting lid on top of it.

Upon returning home, we discovered that not only have our attempt to prevent evaporation failed (only a small layer was saved), but also that the plastic wrap has sunk and made contact with the remaining naphtha, and possibly the layer below it.

So the question is, have we ruined our product completely? Is there a way to know whether it is safe to use or not? And (hopefully), is it possible that no damage was done? The wrap itself didn´t appear to be damaged; it did have a dark stain in the spot that touched the product.

Thank you for your future replies. Hopefully they´ll show us the way to save some goodies! :)

If its got plastic wrap in it then its pretty much ruined. It dissolves into the naptha. Even the naptha vapors can dissolve it. You should never cover naptha or other NPS with plastic wrap. Instead you could have placed a plate or something on top of it.

I wouldn't take any risks with that extraction and just start over.

I'm not sure but you might be able to save it by backsalting it with a vinegar solution and rebasing it and pulling again with clean naptha.
