Information on smoked, ingested and extracted grass seed heads welcome.

for starters, I would like to see data to support the alkaloid content being high enough in flowers to smoke unextracted and achieve some kind of tryptamine effects. All the old data conflicts with this.

Well just grabbed a hand full of flowers at various stages of maturation from aq1, big medicine, and brachystachys and put them in my bowl about 2 minutes ago now. I smoked the whole bowl and packed it away in disappointment, and am now sitting here typing. :|

I don't think smoking dried seedheads of any phalaris is even possible without isolation. Like jamie said, without efficient data suggesting or proving of the alkaloid content in the seedheads, nothing really can promote this subforum. If they are in there, than extraction would be key..unless you want to smoke dried grass and destroy any valuables.. :thumb_dow

Also, I have a Q about stress related to wilting phalaris plants.. is the alkaloid content increased or decreased?

My experience has been with fresh seed heads
Another person has extracted with success from dried P. Stenoptera seed heads.
I will try and fulfill chemical analysis when I either acquire a home-tlc kit or meet someone who has one.

As for now, Pyro-testing is all I may provide.
This is all wild grass by the way.
I have samples of most everything I mention.

Also this leads me to ponder the pharmacological understanding of Virola and Anadenanthera snuffs.
Most of these snuffs seem to have little or nothing in them active enough to induce shamanic states. Miraculously phalaris contains just about every compound found in those plants as well as some Acacias.

Now, while I have found P. Arundinacea to sometimes be orally active without maoi, many acacias with the same alkaloids provide single plant brew potential as well

Fresh seed heads provided a mild mild experience.
I hope to convey that if youre outbackpacking and have nothing to smoke and come upon a Phalaris patch, it may just provide your lungs with a cleansing breath from the nature around you.
I will only say that a plant speaks when youre listening and not simply approaching it to offer pointless data to material reductionists.

Super blue grass usually yields alright if you're patient. Obviously you won't get a gram of pure dmt from 100g foliage but you may come close to that purity with some strains.

When there is an extended dry period and then it rains; that is the best time for phalaris harvest. The second regrowth after clipping is highest in content but the first regrowth will suffice as well. Phalaris Paradoxa has yielded 60-70mg of alkaloids from 30g of dried grass harvested along a river in June and was a potent smoke.Quite possibly the most potent Phalaris species wild in the Northwest. I have yet to trek back to the same location to provide further yield results.

After it begins raining in fall, apply ammonium sulfate to the plants of which you desire to increase alkaloids. I have compared various sections of grass where I have applied ammonium sulfate with others that had none added.
The addition of a nitrogen supplement like that made regrowth very strong and blue. Seems like(by eating a few hand fulls) that the applied sections are very active orally whereas the non-applied sections produced no effect.

And marten et al 1974 & 1984 and Simon's 1970 work with phalaris will help you out a bit on understanding alkaloid increases.

Also, dried P. Brachystachys inflorescence did nothing. Nice tasteful smoke essence none the less.

I'm only pointing out that anything you smoke will be 'mild.'

PP looks real interesting..beautiful flower head, had no idea it even existed. Thanks for the info. I'll keep it in mind for growing. Do you know which alkaloid had the highest percentage out of the 30g? If it was the most potent smoke I can only assume N,N-DMT. Perhaps that can only be found if you do happen to trek back and I strongly encourage that.

AS, okay, got it. Anything that can help encourage alkaloid content is a must..especially for phalaris containing species. :thumb_up:
