Update- I am now in my new growing space. My cacti that I brought down from Washington are LOVING the sunshine and warmth. They have all already put out a fair bit of new growth and one of my bridgesii has a new pup forming.

I was given a WHOLE BUNCH of rather mature potted bridgesii, huge pachanoi cuttings, and a couple peruvianus as well as some other interesting cacti. My dream has pretty much come true of being able to have my own cactus farm. It's like an instant cactus farm.

I would really like to extend thanks to the person who helped me attain this dream of mine. Not sure if you want me to name you or not, but THANK YOU!

Just got the first plant in the ground today. Up till now I've been growing them in pots and they have been loving the So Cal sun. I'm really excited about the one I planted in the ground. It's a bridgesii with an interesting history. It should provide nicely for many years to come. I also plan on planting a very special pachanoi that I have in the ground as well, just waiting for the cuttings to root into their pots first.

the climate there is so much warmer than mine, i'd have to wait for spring now to do any propagation or planting.

did you put them in the ground, or raised beds?
hows the soil, etc?
full sun/partial shade?

My soil is a very nice sandy loam that drains very well and this was a cactus already rooted into a 5 gallon pot. The weather here is still in the mid 70's consistently. I've found my cacti are happier in partial shade here, so I picked a spot that gets good mid day sun and then falls into the dappled shade of a tree in the hotter parts of the afternoon.

Dug a nice big hole, amended with some compost, organic fertilizer and mycorhyzal/bacterial innoculant with humic acid and stuff.

Yes, very rewarding. I do miss the mushroom picking in the Northwest, but my cacti more than make up for it.

^^ You can always pick some Panaeolus cinctulus :lol: they should actually be coming in right about now, atleast with the first rains just kissin my part of the land
