These are my two favorite psychedelic hip-hop albums, and I think the artists did a great job, anybody can talk about drugs, but it takes a real artist to interpret the psychedelic experience and articulate it intelligently. Even the songs on the album that don't relate to psychedelics are still made to make you think, and contemplation of existence is a psychedelic behavior.

I've almost given up on hip-hop, I'm only 28 but I feel like I'm too old for it, these days I generally just get stoned, and throw on some shpongle through my head phones, or I'll listen to the trialogue lectures between ralph Abraham, terence mckenna and Rupert sheldrake, I've recently found that marijuana and the jazz music of Charles mingus is an amazing mix, but I still believe that there's some good psychedelic hip-hop out there...

I've met 60 year olds with the minds of 16 year olds and I've met 16 year olds wise beyond their years, eyedea was wise for his age, I think 4-phosphorloxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine May have helped him a bit, at least for first born.

I liked eyedeas newer stuff too, but it's all different style than his early days, he eventually went a bit crazy, faked his own death, and picked up an acoustic guitar to play coffee shops.
He had a rock band called "carbon carousel", which sounded a lot like nirvana as well, but faked his death to become an unknown artist....at least that's what I gathered from it, he even was wearing "eyedea is dead" shirts before he faked his death, and released some videos on YouTube of himself being interviewed where he explained that this was his plan, he just did it in a subtle way.

I think some of eyedeas best work was preformed under the name "Oliver Hart" the album "the many faces of Oliver Hart" had some really amazing tracks on it.

As far as hip-hop goes I found eyedea when I was 16, then found sage Francis, then began to explore all the "rhymesayers" artists. I still think eyedea is the best of rhymesayers, I really like sage too but since he is straight-edge he never put out any psychedelic albums.

I found lucid optics last year, the album life in a nutshell reminded me of eyedea in his early days, only with fresher sounding beats, don't get me wrong DJabilities can spin, but there's been some advancements in programing technology since 2004.

But again I feel I'm too old for this stuff, don't get me wrong I love music as art and a novelty, but I can't buy into any culture that's being marketed by these musicians. Why can't it just be art?
These days I just like good music through headphones, doesn't matter if it's punk, dub-reggae, classical, jazz, electronic, blues, jam, grindcore, crust, ambient, etc..

I've always considered Outkast as quite psychedlic rap artists, especially Andre3000 and their album Aquemini

As for getting too old for rap, i gotta admit my mum was right as i really outgrew it, the absolute rubbish that gets passed of as rap music nowadays is half to blame though!

Sorry, but wtf are you talking about? You better provide some good sources before spreading rumors like this.

Listen VERY carefully to what he says in these interviews.

I'm not saying it's proof that this is what happened, but I really sounds like he wanted to fake his death and move on, eyedea died, not mikey.

In this whole video his shirt says "eyedea is dead"

I can't find the original interview, but his shirt says "eyedea is dead" in the link above too.

Just seems like eyedea ran his coarse and Mike just wanted to travel the land with an acoustic guitar playing coffee shops, so eyedea died, but Mike didn't .

I'm still not sure this is what happened, it's just been stuck in my mind since he died, if he really is dead I apologize, but it just really seems like this is the case.

Found it!
This was released just before eyedea dies, big coincidence, or maybe he predicted his own death and decided to wear it on his just weeks before actually dying.

Again, I'm not claiming that this is true in any way, it's just what I think may have happened, and if he really is dead I honestly apologize.

im pretty sure Eyedea is dead, i think there was too many lyrical tributes and fund raising events from his friends. i dont think the shirt is much of a surprise to be honest, he knew he was a mess and what ever kind of opiate addiction he had was gonna kill him.

also it might not be literal, i think he got alot of grief from hip hop heads for experimenting with his sound after E&A.

Another album worth a listen is Ultraviolet by Sadistik, it was written on acid and has the track "Chemical Burns" which is the last track Eyedea featured on, i think, and continues the soon to be dead theme.

Sorry I got all over the place in my posts, the interviews where he is wearing the "eyedea is dead" shirts are not really as relevant as far as what he is speaking about, I think the interview in the links above says it all though, he isn't even being as subtle as I had remembered, I have not thought about any of this since 2010, I had almost forgotten about it.

But I just re-listened to the interview in the links above, and again, it really sounds like he was saying eyedea had run his coarse, so he made his character eyedea die, so himself, Mike, could go on to live another life free from his past.

Again I'm not trying to spread rumors, and if he is really dead I honestly apologize, I'm a huge fan of eyedea, and I'm not trying to be disrespectful.

In response to what was the 3rd wall, listen to what he says in that interview,
he says breaking the 3rd wall was bringing one of his characters to life in the real world.

This all sounds crazy unless you listen to what he says in that interview!?

He also says he wants to travel the country "talking to people" but has expensive tastes in lifestyle, hence the fundraisers after his death.

As far as tributes from his friends, eyedea is dead and will be missed, Mike is not eyedea anymore, so I feel they are being sincere in their tributes to him, but Mike did not really die, he just stopped being eyedea, he killed that character, but that character will still be missed.

I have an app on my kindle that lets me save MP3s from YouTube for free.

I found a song called "hallucinations; the DMT song" it's hip-hop, but the artists name is not included, I just wanted to check out some of this artist's other work, but don't know the name of the group...

Has anybody heard this song? Do you know the name of the artist?

Hip hop has deeply fed a lot of my psychedelic experiences growing up. As you say though, there is certain hip hop I'm growing out of. I've found myself listening to so many hip hop instrumentals now a days. Just throw on j dilla albums in the lab. Something about the rhythmic consistency of hip hop runs with me. Beats will define trips for me. For example I remember one of the last trips I had out in Big Sur on LSD & mushrooms was characterized by a section of the beat from "Glaciers of Ice" by Wu Tang that was looped over and over. As you mention, rhymesayers and associated people like Atmosphere will rhyme about psychedelic things sometimes; wu tang even references a lot of similar concepts, but I don't know if I'd call it psychedelic hip hop really.
 
I consider contemplation of existence a psychedelic behavior, so sometimes even non psychedelic artists can produce what I would consider psychedelic art.

When it comes to psychedelic experiences it seems that some of the most unlikely influences can have deeply significant impact, but it's not as though I set out to hear this artist on the trip, the synchronistic forces in the universe bring art into your experience, you will enter a room and hear a song, rather than you were tripping and selected a song.

Recently I've been listening to a good deal of instrumental music, of all kinds, I love to smoke marijuana and listen to the jazz Charles mingus or listen to classical masterpieces by artists like Frederic Chopin or Tchaikovsky while I study. I've also been listening to a lot of shpongle, ineffable mysteries from shpongleland and museum of consciousness are amazing albums.
