Psychotria viridis extraction

Hi,
I've recently taken an interest in the extraction of DMT from Psychotria viridis leaves for two reasons:
1. Possibly due to my own paranoia I am not willing to import MHRB into my country, there are no local suppliers in my country.
2. The harvest time for growing a MH tree that will survive a harvest is approximately 5 years, while this time frame isn't a great concern it would put immense pressure on a sucessful extraction first time. Psychotria would not have this issue.

I have had previous experience with 69ron's D-limonene extracts of Mescaline and have been trying to piece together the information he provided on psychotria DMT extraction but unfortunately it is far from complete.
From my understanding the hurdles of viridis vs. hostilis extraction are numerous

1. Chlorophyl - lots and lots, requiring many defats, having never had to defat during an extraction before I'm not sure how this is best done, sadly 69ron did not detail this when briefly discussing viridis extractions.

2. DMT N-oxide - According to 69ron anywhere between 50%-100% of the DMT is in this form, this makes the selection of solvents very limited if I am correct.

I understand there is not much of an interest in Psychotria extraction as almost all methods focus on MHRB. But for those not able to obtain this home grown viridis would appear, to my eyes, an ideal alternative. Unfortunately I lack the knowledge to put together the methods for such an extraction.
If anyone has any prior experience or could speculate how best to approach I would be extremely grateful.

69ron had some dubious information.. There is no evidence that there is any n-oxide in p. viridis, in fact, there is evidence that it is NOT there (I can search for the publication, I think it was from callaway, they analysed with hplc-ms many ayahuasca brews made with p viridis and none had n-oxide). Ron was speculating based on some idea he had that leafy plants have a lot of oxygen around and therefore there should be n-oxide, but that is most probably wrong first because of alkaloids being in salt form may be more resistant to oxidation, and also because there can be natural anti-oxidants present in plants.

In any case, i dont have any experience with psychotria extraction, but I cant see why it wouldnt work. I would not really defat, I would probably try to play around with FASI/FASA precipitation of alkaloids from solvent instead, like in BLAB tek fumarate salting step... Or go for naphtha pulls, see what you have left and either recrystallize it, or redissolve in acid, rebase and repull, or dissolve in acetone and do FASA to get fumarates. Defat is a very wasteful process, i would def avoid it at all costs and try other methods.

Also, if you are extracting from a leafy plant, cant you instead find diplopterys cabrerana (chaliponga) ? It usually has way more dmt than p viridis....

Unfortunately I have been unable to get my hands on diplopterys even as a seed so my main focus is psychotria viridis, but certainly, even with conservative estimates diplopterys should be at least 3-4x higher in concentration and would be a far better source for such an extraction.

Good to hear about the n-oxide and possibility of avoiding defats.
With regards to a FASI/FASA extraction, if I was unable to obtain Fumaric acid could it be substituted in exactly the same way with say Hydrochloric acid or citric acid. I am assuming the solubility of the DMT salts would be different and as such they may not precipitate out hence this may not work, again I simply do not have enough knowledge in the area to say.
I have yet to find a source of fumaric acid locally (within my country) but I certainly agree that this method would be the best at obtaining a DMT salt without a defat.


If this is not a viable option and I still cannot get hold of fumaric acid, what would be the method for the naptha pulls.. Would this be along the lines of basified water + leaves, add naptha, evap naptha, refine crystalline material.

EDIT: After further research it appears that fumaric acid is relatively unique in this regard and such a process would not be possible with citric, malic or acetic or hydrochloric acids...
Again I think that this process would be more than ideal as suggested for leaf matter. Will continue the hunt for local fumaric acid I guess.
