Pulling and filterring Naphtha made simple

I'm in the middle of an extraction right now. I'm doing a very simple modified A/B or an STB with and acid soak, thats another post. Any way I was pulling solvent from my jars last night and ....... I realized, I really have the process down! It works for me, anyway. I thought I would share this part of my process with some photos as I believe it will help others. I never liked the turkey baster, its not precision enough for me, I dont own a seperatory funnel and a stand and I dont need those items.

I wanted a system that gently, without disturbing the basic solution, pulled naphtha out of my jar. I also needed something that would filter any lye/bark if I did accidently pull some up along with my solvent.

Sooooooo, here is what I came up with.

I purchasd two 100ml/cc syringes. I have purchased them from many locations. The current ones I am using are safe HDPE 2 plastic. They were purchased at a garden store/grow shop. They are used for adding PH up or PH down so they can handle anything you put in them.

I take one syring and I pull the plunger out and put it aside.

I take cotton balls and put them inside the syringe as shown in the foto.

Next I simply pull naphtha from my jars with one syringe.

I take the filter syringe and put it in my collection jar. see photo.

I simply put the solvent I pull in the filter syring and let it filter through.

This filter works wonderful. Even if you pull a decent ammount of lye/mhrb with your solvent the cotton filters it right out. Clean, dmt saturated solvent comes out the other end, ready to go to the freezer.

Most anyone should be able to figure this out.

Questions?

Nice and clean...

I remember this though from a post by OlderRom about growing crystals..

Now, here's the key to this step: Take a cotton ball/Q-tip and use it to soak up all of the liquified spice. The spice loves cotton and it'll soak up very quickly. Once all the spice is in the cotton, stir and mix the cotton around. You want all of the spice to constantly come into contact w/the cotton. Keep adding a small amount of hot solvent until all the spice is dissolved.

Could some of the molecule get 'imparted' into the cotton?
Is your yield as expected?
Could you do a Re-x on the cotton afterwards to see if any remained?

If it works well its a great idea..:d

Simpel yet genious. One worry though: wouldn't significant amounts of solvent with DMT in it get stuck in the cottonballs? Or could all solvent easily be squished out?

I stick a clean plunger in it when i am finished and squeeze it down to a very small compact size.

If there is something left in the cotton, its not worth anyones time and effort getting it out. Trace ammounts, would bee my guess.

is this the same syringe as the one you have?

looks the same to me, I ordered 2, needed a syringe anyways

That is the one. Good find and goood purchase.

IMPORTANT TIP !!!

Let me offer one bit of advice when using this tek. take the plunger out of the syringe you are going to use to pull with and dip it into naphtha first. dip about the first two inches of the plunger in. You want to do this in order to lubricate it so it slides easily back and forth.

If you do not do this you will have some problems.

thanks for the advice IH, I've been having problems with getting plant material in my pulls, so I thought this might help a bit.

The nice thing about this tek is that if you do pull a little plant matter or basic soultion, IME it gets caught up in the cottonit doesnt even get an 1/8 of the way through the cotton filter.

Oce you do get some basified stuff in the cotton, you dont have to change it right away, finish pulluing and filtering first.

nice! I was trying to use a leftover syringe i had from inoculating spores but the plunger would take insane amounts of effort to move. Good to know i can lube it up with naptha. Beats using a 10 mL syringe that's for sure!

Hey, thanks for the tip :)
I'm right in the middle of acquiring all sorts of wares for my first extraction, this will be replacing the eyedropper/pipet on my list for now.
