Q21Q21 salting ... copious water?

issue: vinegar salting steps call for copious water salts from the d-limo until d-limo is clear. A quart of vinegar+water too much for 30g mhrb? d-limo still cloudy. FG d-limo clear going in and filtered when pulled. No deviation from tek.

150ml of D-limo (3 - 50 ml pulls) still cloudy after 1qt. of salting with vinegar then water ... should one keep salting? At this rate a qt of water for 30g mhrb ... thats alot of time to evap / reduce with double boiler for an otherwise speedy tek. What ratio of solvent (or mhrb) to salting water is typical / expected?

hmmm, well the tek mentions that copious amounts of water are needed to clear it but says to follow the steps (shotglass full of vinegar and shotglass full of water) to get 90% of the DMT out. I'll clarify the wording in the tek later... actually take it out because the reason it was in there was because I first used the fogginess and clarity to indicated if more water/vinegar was needed but now it doesn't need to be mentioned at all.

The good news is that you can evaporate that large amount of water for your DMT

what do you mean when you say the limo is still cloudy? Limo pulls oils from the bark that are not DMT or oxides..and most dont come out when you salt the limo..the limo will never fully clear up after you salt it in my experience..it will hold that orangy yellow color.

I took my jar of limo last week that I have used for multiple extractions now, and tested this theory. I did 4 long water/vinegar pulls on the limo that should have had all the DMT salted out..the vinegar salts took on that orange tint and I thought that maybe there was still alot of DMT in there..I evapped it and smoked it and it was NOT DMT..it was all oils and tasted sort of soapy. It was not even really like a low dose of DMT..it was just oils and fats with maybe minute ammounts of spice..not worth bothering with. It gave me a headache.

So dont worry if your limo is still yellow or orange.

I was under the impression that 'the above steps' were sufficient and should be repeated until it wasn't cloudy. A single shot of each is much less than a quart! That's good news.

Unfortunately Changa probably has lots of that NON-DMT contaminates. It is very sticky and, yes, it has very soapy smell! Glad it was small batch.

all I do is I do 3 or 4 limo pulls on the bark..and I salt each pull 3 times with vinegar and hot water..I dont even measure the vinegar and water anymore..it does not seem to matter too much. The q21 tek works great for me and it is so easy. I have a dehydrator though so it makes evapping more water/vinegar not a problem..I only use a double boiler at the end. I have never ever gotten the limo to loose that yellow tint..it will not clear up. It is fine though and you can just use the limo again for your next extraction.

The tek is edited (not final draft, just quick edit) to warn about leaving the vinegar to long and cloudiness is only mentioned as being incidental to the process.

Also did a quick overhaul of the evaporation step.

Hope this prevents others from having similar issues. Good thing you were smart enough to try a mini-extraction first!

Hey, do you have any big issues with loss of solvent.
I've been procrastinating on doing some tests that are really needed cause I lost like 350ml when using 750ml last extraction!

Yeah I do notice that some solvent is lost..I tried to sort of squeeze it out of the bark as best I could after my last pull but there was some still in there..it has not seriousily effected my yields, but still if I could cut down on the solvent loss it would be great.

The shot of vinegar and shot or 2 of water ... is this workable for the range of 30-250g MHRB? Should one scale up the vinegar / water for 250g MHRB or is the shot or two sufficient for the larger batches as well?

Other capacities in the tek have a ratio so it is clear how to scale. Wondering about this one. Perhaps the shot or two is sufficient for the larger batches as well ... ?

Also, will take care to measure for solvent loss and report back.

Nah, I think the shots should be totally fine for any amount (Up to 1 litre of solvent... I'd estimate)
