q21q21 thin film appearing after freeze precipitation

Hello Nexus,


I’ve now pretty much finished the process and I didn’t expect to have questions at this stage.

Alright so basically the tray has been taken out of the freezer to dry and now I can see the finished
product stucked to the glass. It doesn’t smell naphta (been drying for hours), though it does smells of something quite strongly.

Anyway it is mentionned in the tek guide that there might be a thin film at the bottom beneath the crystals, and that’s what I’ve got on my tray. I’m not too sure about how to proceed next.

I imagine I don’t want to scrap the whole thing and mix that film with the crystals, should it be scraped softly without pressing too much so as to remove only the crystals and leave the film intact for now?

i would scrape up all the goo, it should harden into a tan/brown/orange chunk. i dont know if it is safe to smoke at that point, but you can do a recrystalization. i used q21s tek and got plenty of white spice, but also 2 grams of that goo, but that goo rexed into about 1.5grams of very fluffy, pure white spice!! the other .5 of goo left over looks nasty now, i accidentally discarded it, but i feel even that was still active..

Interesting, scraping the crystals first then scraping the film to recrystallize it sounds great! I ll scrape the fluff very soon then, I m curious to know how much I got from the tek and I was waiting to hear from someone first (can't be too cautious during the first time I guess).

The tek mentions that the film is soluble in vinegar but I'm still a complete apprentice so I don't know exactly how to handle that process, may I ask you how would recrystallize it?

Dissolve in warm naphtha and then freeze precipitate. What you can do is take a shotglass, or something similiar, dissolve the impure spice in it. You can hot water bath to help it all dissolve. Then you can pour that into your precip container, something easier to scrape the crystals out of. The goo should stay in the bottom of the shotglass if you pour carefully.

when i rex i use a small glass sealed jar, put the warm naptha in it (just enough to dissolve the spice), and dissolve the impure spice or goo or both in it, keep warm for a while, shake it up occasionally, slowly let cool to room temp, some goo will stick to bottom, naptha will be cloudy, use pipette to siphon cloudy naptha into precip container, pop into fridge for a few hours, then into freezer for 18 hours or more, until the naptha is clear, pour off naptha into used naptha jar and evap precipitation container, scrape and enjoy!!! i do the process on the goo at least twice. i use new naptha for this, and save the used naptha for other things. i will be very happy when i can rex with bestine, i hear thats how to get super elite big clear crystals!
EDIT.. i use a very small jelly jar from a fancy diner as my precip container when i rex, because i can leave the crystals in the jar for storage, no need to damage the xtals by scraping them out!!

As it turns out, I have another unexpected issue to resolve, there are tiny bits of the bark mush mixed with the rest; I already saw them before but there are more than it seems and they are a pain to remove :?: I thought I could just pick them up with tweezers but they crumble very easily and even there isn't a lot of it they're spread everywhere!

The thin film seems to come off easily as well and mix with the crystals when I try to scrape them.

Is there in easy way to get them out?

Funny how it's now that I m encountering issues when it went so well so far, I thought that only scraping was left to be done...naive little Me hehe

I've put a white sheet of paper underneath so the brown bits are more visible (didn't get the occasion to finished my post after uploading the pisc).

doesnt look too bad, should have filterd the naptha thru a coffee filter before putting into freeze precip container, but its ok. just scrape up everything and recrystalize. the brown flecks should stay in the sticky goo leftover from the rex. just keep reading forums, even ones that seem unrelated, as thats where ive learned most of my techniques

Cool thank you very much for your replies, I ll dissolve everything into one vessel and I ll pour it into another vessel, through a coffee filter this time. That way if some brown bits don’t stick to the bottom the filter will catch them.
