Question about q21q21 TEK 1

Hello!

I plan on trying this tek soon but I have a few questions. In the acid wash/salting step, it says that you have to add vinegar, wait for dmt acetate to start floating on top layer (solvent), then suck out the vinegar (bottom layer) and put it in a different container. Then you add water and also suck it out (I'm assuming this will also be the bottom layer?) and combine it with the vinegar. Now what I don't understand is why in the next step (Evaporation), do you evaporate the vinegar? I thought that the dmt acetate would be left in the other container since you sucked out just the vinegar and the water. Also, can I reuse the solvent? What happens to the solvent after the acid wash, does it also just evap in the next step? Any help is appreciated!

Edit: I am also looking for a place to buy limonene. I found a store which sells an extract but it says it has both limonene and beta-pinene. Would this work or can I only use pure limonene?
 
Yes, unfortunately that's a misleading statement in the instructions on the wiki. Even if there is some clouding in the NPS layer, your DMT acetate will be in the bottom water layer. The vinegar wash is how the DMT is recovered. Once you understand what is happening throughout the whole extraction process this should become clear to you:

Incidentally, if you're using limonene your DMT will smell of oranges unless you apply a of clean-up process - e.g., recrystallisation from heptane, or some kind of fumarate-based process using acetone or isopropanol, perhaps.

Limonene evaporates only quite slowly and is far too expensive to waste like that.

Pinene is less chemically stable than limonene - it forms peroxides on prolonged storage which can be very dangerous. Pinene would probably work as an NPS but it's worth noting it's far less stable towards strong acids than limonene. Neither limonene nor pinene should be mixed with strong acids unless you want the products of the ensuing reaction anyhow.

Ok thanks, I am finally starting to get a grip on how it works. Just to clarify (and sorry if this is an ignorant question), the NPS layer is going to be what contains the d-limonene, and after I take out the vinegar/water I can use the top layer for the next pull, right?
 
The NPS (non-polar solvent) is the limonene. You might want to dry it with a bit of anhydrous sodium carbonate before doing another pull (other people might suggest other drying agents but this one stops traces of acetic acid getting back into your lime paste). So, yes, you can re-use your limonene.
