so the only jars I have available for me that I wouldn't have to buy are regular mouth sized jars. I was wondering if you could just let the jars colonize and then when there done can I just scrap everything out with a knife on to some perlite. So instead of a 4 inch cake I just have it spread out evenly in birthing chamber? I know there are dunk and roll steps but I don't know if that is possibly without complete cakes. Any ideas on what I should do?

I've spawned BRF cakes to small bulk grows with no problems. The substrate for the bulk grows isn't sterilized so doesn't require a pressure cooker. You'll have to put the substrate in some kind of plastic bag that can withstand boiling water temperatures and then pasteurize it.
For easy bulk substrate try coco coir and straw pellets mixed with a bit of vermiculite, gypsum and lime. worked like a charm for me.

Coco coir and verm works fine. If you can get gypsum thats an added bonus (a major one I might add). The other ingredients aren't necessary for a bulk grow and don't have to be added if you can't get a hold of them. Coir and vermiculite are all you really need for sub.
Coir and verm the minimum for cubies and is very nutritious. For bulk substrates, one only has to pasteurize the sub, which only requires a pot, a lid, a thermometer, a decent trash bag and the substrate mixture. You could then break up the PF cakes with clean hands and mix into the cooled down fresly pasteurized substrate. It more than quadruples(?) your yield. I think pasteurizing is just waiting for the substrate in the trashbag in the pot of water to reach about 150 f and then turning the heat off and putting the lid of the pot on. It stuns the bad bacteria (so i here), and leaves the beneficial microorganisms that mycelium has adapted to live with for almost as long as its been on the planet Earth. If you have questions (im sure you will, but its definatly not a difficult procedure), just ask away.
Also, if you have access to anything like potatoe dextrose agar, or any type of agar (theres a tek on shroomery for making PDA with things at most grocery stores), you could go into getting good genetics and clones and what not. Awesome stuff. Oh also a glovebox would be needed

My cat found Coir to be very forgiving. Simple method to pasteurize: pour freshly boiled water into a plastic cooler with a brick of coir, + verm + gypsum(optional), crumble and mix it up. Cover with a thick towl and allow to cool. Crumble/grate colonised BRF and mix into coir tub.
