Hi curious,

In the nexus there is a comment about the hcl dilution. Within this note there is a link where member Futura suggests that you should ideally have PH6 for the purest extraction (5ml 10% hcl to 25ml water seems to have a PH of 1.5 according to that topic).

I'm doing my second limo pull this day and will salt this with the suggested PH6 dilution. The third pull I'll do with the 5ml 10% hcl to 25ml water dilution. Will let you know my results.

Hi,

Number 1: The hcl solution could indeed affect metal. My metal funnel turned black within a couple of minutes after the diluted HCL was poured through (quite stupid as i new it was corrosive).
I think sucking it up with a syringe would be a pain in the ass. If you consider doing extractions more often you could probably better invest in a seperatory funnel. They are not that expensive on ebay and if treated carefully it will last your life.

Number 3: Can't give you advise on that one. I'm evapping my hcl right now but probably since its a small yield I won't clean it and eat it as is.

Polypropylene seems to be avoided with d-limonene according to Florida Chemical Company (d-limonene seller). Probably only a problem of the limonene is in contact for a long time. But as you can see cheap soda bottles are resistant so you could always make a getto funnel.

This is taken form their site about d-limonene and compatibility with plastics:

In general, polyethylene and polypropylene should be avoided. PET (the material from which soda bottles are made) may be the best single polymer. Polymer composites with better properties are also available at a higher price. Avoid contact with materials that can rust. Improper use and storage may result in oxidation. Use CO2 or nitrogen blanket for bulk storage and minimize head space in filled containers.

ahh thats very bad news but better that you told me.

I am wanting a plastic type funnel as I dont want to pay too much and would want to avoid breakages in posting glassware.
What type of plastic can be used with d-limonene?

Thanks for your input!
