The sides of the glass jars became opaque, visibility was reduced and some basic plant gunk got into the turkery baster when decanting....

I just read the FAQ's on this topic, but I want to clarify. If the naphtha pulls are in a wide glass tray is transferring the liquid to a narrow glass container and adding water/sodium carbonate really the best way to separate the bubbles of plant gunk/sodium hydroxide? Why not just carefully suck up the droplets of basic plant liquid at the bottom of the naphtha/dmt tray with a plastic eyedropper and squirt them back into the main extraction jar, and then carefully perform another pull from the jar in a few minutes?

Washing spice has as a main function to eliminate any possible lye or other polar impurities (like droplets of the mimosa basic mix) from the final product, which might make the smoke harsher.
What risk is there in vaping the spice using a GVG when such impurities are present?

Or would I be better off just scraping up the whole tray after it has dried and doing a recrystillization, decanting with a glass eyedropper?

You could try to catch as much of the gunk as possible which would be an good idea and add a little warm water to lower the concentration of the hopefully little remaining droplets and decant again.

A SC wash is more complete as it also removes any fine particles that are in suspension in the NP layer. But removing as much as possible upfront is an good idea anyway.

I think lye contaminations could iritate the lungs and taste bad/harsh.

You could wash the finely chopped spice with some water to get rid of the lye.
