recrystalisation problems

Hi there,

For the first time in a long time I done an A/B extraction and ended up with some pretty white spice, but with hints of yellow here and there, so thought i would try a recrystalisation as I want to FASA it. I got a gram and a half from 500g MHRB. Weighed out a gram and added 35ml naptha to it. Dissolved it all but ended up with no oily residue at all. Then crystals started reforming lost instantly in the glass when it started to cool. I added another 10ml naptha put back in water bath but now it won't even dissolve.

Can anyone help me out to what I am doing wrong. I can visably see that my spice isn't as pure as I would like. I can add photos if need be.

Was the 35ml naphtha warm? how warm? when you added, the whole thing dissolved, there was no bottom layer of goo? Next time use a bit less solvent maybe.

what do you mean with "crystals started reforming lost instantly in the glass"? So crystals started forming? what is the problem there? Just freeze it and all will be good

Why are you adding more naphtha again? Why not just freeze and retrieve your crystals?

Am not sure why I added more naphtha. Just wanted to dissolve it all again and freeze it out from scratch, which is what I am doing now. Maybe I do need to use less naphtha, though was hard to dissolve it all, in fact a little spec just wouldn't dissolve.

You'll have to excuse my bad grammar in the last post. It was written in a rush. I meant after I took it out the water bath crystals started forming. Also the naphtha wasn't warm to start with if that helps.

I'll take some photos when it freezes out and I'll try again.

Just took a quick look and can see lovely white sea of crystals on top but the underside of the glass in junky. Perhaps I do need to use a lot less naphtha.

I just tried to take a quick pic but my battery ran out on the camera. Will charge and take another soon, but for now this is all I could capture.

The naptha should be warm when u dissolve dmt in it. Did u read a re-x tek?

Do you mean the naphtha should start warm? I followed the handbook, that said to sit the naphtha in a water bath, which I did and work it into the naphtha, which it also did, but there was no residue, just clear naphtha. So the naphtha was warm in the end.

Yes the naptha should start warm. U place ur container with naptha in it into a hot water bath, this heats the naptha up and then you dissolve ur dmt in the warm naptha a d there should be some impurities drop to the bottom. Decant or siphon off the clean naptha leaving any residue behind and freeze your clean naptha and voila clean spice after freeze precipitation ;-)
