I guess it's really tek dependent, so.. Say you're tek leaves you with a bunch of spice and a bunch of yellow oil and shit, then yes clearly you're going to have to clean up your product and as far as i'm aware recrystallisation would be the way to do that an example of this case would be: [img:96bcafdbb5]http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/2325/img0281zq9lt9.jpg[/img:96bcafdbb5] the above pic is the result of the following process: 1. cook bark in pH 4 dilute acetic acid 2. pour off and basify to pH 14 3. extract with shellite 4. freeze precipitate no defat was done and it would seem that was a mistake slowly slowly i managed to get rid of that crap and leave relatively white powder - i did this by dissolving in warm shellite, pour off, freeze precipitate, repeat etc.. the only reason it worked was that dmt was more soluble in slightly warm shellite than the fats now, using the same plant material, the same process with the addition of a post-extraction defat step was used: 1. cook bark in pH 4 dilute acetic acid 2. pour off and basify to pH 14 3. extract with shellite 4. Wash shellite with fresh pH 4 dilute acetic acid ** The dmt goes into the aqueous layer leaving behind fats 5. Discard shellilte, basify aqueous layer 6. extract with shellite 7. freeze precipitate this revised process gave the following: [img:96bcafdbb5]http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/2691/untitlednx5.jpg[/img:96bcafdbb5] as i've said so proudly before [img:96bcafdbb5]http://www.wetdreams.ws/forum/images/icon_smile_approve.gif[/img:96bcafdbb5] this is whiter than any powder i've ever seen EXCEPT 2CB from an RC company to which this is on par so what i'm saying is there is no discolouration, those pics are't the best but they are an adequate representation of what was scraped out of that glass - WHITE !!!!! And, I am 99% confident there is no NaOH in there, that is pure spice So, is there any reason I would recrystallise that? Or is there really no need? Thanks Salvia :D Yeah, Noman i saw some of your pics 😉 looks like you did very well! just to cofirm my understanding.. -yes recrystallisation gives nice crystals --but the main benefit is that by [u:480aef09f7]slowly[/u:480aef09f7] letting the dmt molecules bond to form sizable crystals, ehh fuck i know what its doing but i don't know how to explain it.. basically, the slower you go the less impurities will exist in the crystal lattice and hence it's a cleaning process.. yeah? so say my spice is clean enough, i'd really have no need to do this.. but i will, just so i too can have purdy dmt crystals to show everyone :lol:

But since its so clean, it will probably make some awesome looking crystals :D just dissolve the spice a little at a time by adding small amounts of hot solvent until its all dissolved, then let it sit at room temperature until crystals form. BTW I like your double a/b idea and it makes sense that it results in such clean product. I'm going to try it at some point on MHRB. I'd love to try some acacia spice though, I've heard it has a slightly different feel from MHRB spice or synthetic spice (which also feel slightly different from each other). have you tried MHRB or synthetic and can you comment on this?

Unfortunately i fucked that one up in about as many ways as possible (hot water bath cracks glass - i lost about a gram or two there, plus evaporating too much too fast in preparation for freeze precipitation - i suspect up to two or three grams were lost here) but, minus these screw ups, i suspect efficiency could easily be 95% and up. with an extraction there is never really any reason to leave any behind, there is no such thing as a 'loss' if you know what i mean.. plus the bark was young.. perhaps it had a low content as is.. I've had much spice in my time, but I really have no idea what the source was (used to get it from a local headshop, they didn't talk too much) but being in australia, i suspect they were again extracting from acacias, and my recent experiences were quite on par with these I'd be real curious to try all kinds of spice i could 😉

a headshop that sells deems?!?! :shock: damn austrailia sounds like a cool place! is it pretty popular in Austrailia? kinda seems like it might be. its still pretty unknown in the states, except in certain circles.

well i never heard about it until i wondered in this shop and walked away with a little bag of something that cost $100 tried it at home and whoa 'what the hell is this !?!?' (and i didn't even break through - but i knew whatever this is it has massive potential) i guess amongst the circles dmt is most definitely popular but those are small circles in the year i've known about it i've met one person who has had it, and maybe two others that have heard of it - and i try to speak to as many people as possible about it in the hope of finding someone on the same level as i am now unfortunately, the shop no longer sells and australia remains cool 8)
