Recurring dream

Migrated topic.

Rising Star
I have had this dream several times in my life. The first time I was young, perhaps in my early teens. I think it has happened 3 or 4 times.

The dream was more of a feeling. There was some basic imagery but it makes little sense. Fleeting images of a gumball machine and a train.

The dream starts with the image of a penny. The penny then starts to expand exponentially into somethng larger than the earth. I can feel the weight of this object above me crushing me. When I have awakened from this dream I am pretty freaked out. The feeling is as if the entire universe has balled itself up into one incredibly dense sphere that crushes everything.

Looking back it may have happened while in sleep paralysis, but I cannot be sure since it was so long ago.

Has anyone had dreams of a similar nature?

money is evil and much too important in our lives. If we blow up its importance it will smother us? maybe that's the message...?

The only time I've had recurring dreams was when I was a child. I dreamt of a volcano erupting and running from the lava. Just a normal fear-dream. Some patterns repeat in my dreams for periods of time. For a few years I kept having dreams with lots and lots of blood. Or dreams in which I was drugged. I think there are feelings/emotions linked to these dreams that are somehow unresolved and need to be integrated. I can't tell you what that means for your dream though...

Wow orgone, this is really similar to a recurring dream that I used to have. Its true about the fleeting imagery and that it is more of a feeling and the images don't make much sense.
I used to have this dream many times and it seemed to dissipate over the years, I have not had it in years.
In the dream I was walking in the darkness and all there would be was an infinitely long white picket fence with people traveling in opposite directions on either side like cars on a road, they/I would be picking up somthing like rocks maybe, I can't remember. But then somthing would happen and I would feel really heavy and there was this fear of oh no here it comes! The fear would intensify as the thing would happen until I woke usually crying as a child but scared shitless even as a 19 year old (the last time I had it). Very wierd, no idea what its about though.

Your picket fence description is similar to mine.

In my dream it was as if a black screen was separated by a white line. A train or something was traveling down the line.

The imagery is symbolic at best, I don't think it can be interpreted in the standard way. The feeling is more compelling.

Like you, I had it several times when i was younger and most recently about 5-6 years ago. Haven't had it since. It still freaks me out.

Too weird man... the similarities are crazy!
I have recently thought that maybe it has somthing to do with the birth process.

I had a recurring dream when I was younger that happened once every few years. Craziest thing ever and always seemed so stupid after I was fully awake and thought about it, but absolutely terrifying when I dreamt it.

First time was when I was 4 years old, and I believe it has to do with me coming to terms with what death was. Elvis being a famous dead person for me as a child, it involved him.

I would be running around the house, and the phone would ring. Me wanting to be a big boy, runs to pick up the phone. I say hello, and the reply is Elvis saying "Thank you very much..." and then it cuts out and I heard that "DUNN DUNN DUNN DUNN" like the phone got disconnected, because I wasn't supposed to be talking to the "other side".

At this point, I would wake up paralyzed in fear for several minutes, then go back to sleep.

I've had i similar recurring dream in my childhood. It was quite disturbing to wake up to, and i felt odd for a few minutes after wards. Sometimes it would happen multiple times in a night as well.

The dream started as me simply observing membrane of infinite smoothness i'm not even sure it was a 2d membrane nothing really i can compare it too, soon it would begin to krinkle and darken, eventually getting very chaotic at witch point all i could describe it as was visual, auditory, and heavy sensory dysphoria. Everything shrinked up and was dense krinklty and in a sense like entropy in reverse. All the spread out white energy was pulled back into its more energetic and chaotic state. Very strange stuff, haven't had one of these dreams since i was at most 10 though.

I'd like to revive this thread.

I talked to a couple people recently that told me about their reoccurring dreams and they sparked my interest again due to the fact that some really weird things seem to coincide with them.

The first person I talked to told me about their dream and it went something like this; They would be standing on one side of a street where it was sunny and on the other side of the street it was snowing. There was an old man with a nightcap on beckoning them to come over, which they would then refuse and the dream would end. They would awaken with a very bad feeling.

The strangest part of this is that one day this person was speaking with their sister and she was saying how she used to have a scary reoccurring dream, when the person asked her what the dream was she replied with the EXACT same dream as her sibling. The two sisters had never communicated this dream to each other until they were both in their 40's.

The second person I talked to said that they used to have a reoccurring dream about either being stuck in a small dark and scary house where it was ok for them to be in OR a similar dream in which they were sneaking around in a big bright beautiful house where they were not allowed to be.

I'm starting to see loose similarities in most of these dreams, one of a distinct separation. Maybe between good and evil?

I would love to hear of any other reoccurring dreams nexus members may have had.

When I was younger I used to have this reoccurring nightmare. I would be in my childhood home, but there would be something different about it, like the details would be all wrong. And I'm unable to move, like completely paralyzed, because there's an invisible presence around me. It often felt like 4-6 entities who were surrounding me very close to me but I couldn't see them. I cannot even begin to describe the feeling of horror that I sensed from them, like they were beyond evil, very hard to explain. And they would keep me paralyzed with some sort of force field, and also they would keep me from waking up. Now thinking about it I think they were feeding off me in some way.

I haven't had these in a loong time but recently I've started to have something very similar, like a new version of it. This time I can move and the setting is different, it's a forest and there's a small wooden cabin at the darkest edge of it, and the cabin has almost a pitch black tunnel to go underground. And I can sense exactly the same kind of presence there, wherever it leads. Needless to say that I've never gone further than that. I know it probably has something to do with symbolizing some dark unresolved issues in my head, and I should probably enter the tunnel, but the feeling of horror is something so unimaginably intense that it seems completely impossible to even consider it.

The weird thing is that I've never encountered anything with the same level of horror on psychedelics, only in dreams.

I've had the same feeling during sleep paralysis. It's pretty freaky. The feeling of horror is totally alien in nature.

Yeah, the horror is like no other. I could only compare it to what I imagine what it would feel like to die and go to hell, though I'm not sure I believe in hell. Just a complete detachment from everything good and familiar into this evil, heavy, unforgiving space.

I have had some really gnarly dreams about demonic entities but none struck as much fear into me as the reoccurring one.

I used to have really bad night terrors as a kid that i really cannot describe in imagery either. It was just a sort of panic, and awe that would continuously loop around. I just remember sensing something IMMENSE and FAST, coming in strange waves. Something in the OP about trains actually reminded me of this, but it almost reminds me of being inside a magnetic rail-launcher in retrospect (though since I was a kid, and the sense of this place was beyond this, it is only a metaphor to describe in the now). I would wake up so insanely messed up, and a few times I would be woken up while sleep walking by my family. The perception of time being non-existent in this place and the sheer horror that I felt is something I still cannot think about without getting goosebumps. Even worse is that there is no symbolism to really decipher.

Another reoccuring one I had as a kid was being chased by elephants through a maze inside of a really vast palace, and the maze walls were lined with bookshelves. I haven't had this one in a long time, but I have deciphered it in many paradoxical ways, that does help me come to terms with things, especially the faults in my own nature that may sometimes cause me to constantly be running away from my own lessons.

The first one though reminds me of a few I've read here, just in different ways. It's really amazing to read about.

My experiences are in line with all of the above.

It's more than just an adrenaline fear response, and I've never heard of it being experienced from anything other than dream.

Even phobias don't appear to be as intense. I've seen people freeze in fear and start hyperventilating from a panic attack, but they know the cause of their fear even if it's irrational.

The fear from those dreams though... it like a preternatural fear.

I now have the urge to see what information I can turn up on night terrors (term used to describe the experience). Wonder if there is anything unique about the fear that isn't normally experienceable.
