Rediscovered an Ancient Rite

Panpsychic

Titanium Teammate
Hi

Longtime psychedelic user here, mainly with LSD and Psilocybin. Recently got into the Pengamum Harmala + smoked DMT combo.
Now consider myself privy to an ancient rite and tradition, maybe the most sacred of them all.

Use psychedelics to better myself, hopefully become the man I am supposed to be, to work towards attaining enlightenment and to explore the cosmos and nature of reality.

All of us are very privileged to know about and have access to this divine sacrament that grants us communication and communion with The Depth of being, and I look forward to discussion with others on this most holy path.

Hey now, welcome! That's a good reason to be doing what you're doing. I am interested to hear more about this ancient rite. Are you referring to drinking PH and then smoking extracted spice?

Panpsychic,

Welcome to the Nexus and thank you for introducing yourself. I'm guessing just like Loveinthedream that you make syrian rue tea then either smoke a freebase form of DMT or eat a freebase or salt form of DMT.

What did you make of those experiments? Have you gone deep? Ever tried harmalas with LSD or mushrooms. I recently tried psilohuasca for the first time and found it to be an amazing and beautiful symmetry.

I would love to hear how you think current use of these medicines relates to ancient rites. There is a strong pull for an ancient future or an archaic revival within the psychedelic community. The idea of taking knowledge from the past and bringing it into and using it in the high tech future. I am wondering if you are feeling this also . . .

Regardless I am glad you here and warmly welcome you.

Yes, I am referring to making the Harmala tea (usually consumed with a soft drink to cut the taste) and then smoking DMT usually in the form of Enhanced leaf or Changa through a bong about an hour later which is my standard way of taking it.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I am big into rediscovering a veneration of these sacraments as ancient rites, but more to the point the experience itself directly presents itself to me like this. I generally always do them in combination and I believe subjectively there is some difference to just smoking the freebase alone. The first time I did it felt to me like I was partaking in a very very ancient ritual of something sacred, a secret key to 'communing with The Depth' as I like to describe the Immanent Yet Transcendent Infinite.

Interestingly, it's doesn't feel really 'fun' to me like LSD or mushrooms, it feels very serious and very heavy. Almost a weight of responsibility. Last week I had the most powerful psychedelic trip I have ever had in my life using this combination with many existential insights. It was very tough, the main trip lasted about 25 minutes with a still strong comedown for a further 30-40 minutes or so which was somewhat like a super high resolution mushroom trip. It's not something I take lightly, and is the only psychedelic I feel some apprehension and trepidation about beforehand.

I am fascinated by Peganum Harmala, and the fact it can be used as a straight incense to add to a ritualistic rite also, and that the brew made with it is fluorescent.
Based on my research, it has a history of sacred use and I do believe the Harmala brew + DMT containing plants whether smoked or drunk is one version of the ancient Soma sacrament.

I have yet to try Psilohuasca, but it's on my list of things to do and the synergy sounds amazing yes.

Frankly speaking, there are so many amazing and incredible things I have and continue to experience with psychedelics, both during trips and in daily life that I will probably need to write a book about it one day.

Hiya @Panpsychic
Welcome.

I was wondering what texts you are reading on ancient rites involving psychedelics. I do love reading about ancient civilizations, and really got into the Sumerians and their belief systems. I myself joined this forum after a looking for answers on what it meant to get closer to God. Particularly the 'Book of Enoch', where it led me down a path of believing there was something in *roots* (referenced by "the cutting of roots") that was one of the 'eternal secrets' the "Watchers" had told humans about, and were apparently not supposed to. Anyways, each piece of information I found heading down that path ultimately landed me here. It has been a great source of knowledge.

Some of my reading has come from various papers and book chapters discussing this although its far from conclusive. I see it however that I am doing a modern interpretation of an ancient rite.

I try to follow some ceremonial elements associated with the Soma ritual and its likely connection to Peganum Harmala.
The word 'soma' itself comes from the word meaning to 'pound' or 'press' as part of a preparation, again it has been interpreted differently based in what the identity of the plant(s) have been put forward as.

I believe that ritual itself need not necessarily be something extra, but rather the processes involved in preparation and consumption of the sacrament themselves can take on a kind of sacred significance. I have a granite pestle and mortar I use for grounding the seeds before brewing into a tea, which I use exclusively for this purpose:

Of course I could use something else like a coffee grinder and it would serve the purpose but this is an example of an opportunity I would say for doing it as part of a rite, so I keep it.

Then of course Rue seeds can be burned as incense which also adds a purifying ambience before tripping, traditionally Rue is used in this way to purify spaces so this is a living link to ceremonial use. Here is a traditional Rue incense burner that I got, and you can see it is meant to be portable and opens and closes to sanctify spaces.

You can obviously also do rituals around the taking of the brew itself and use some kind of goblet or special glass for serving, and around the taking up of the pipe or bong.

This is a nice article about traditional use of Peganum Harmala or Aspand meaning 'holy'.

These are all ways of, at least temporarily making the space that you partake of feel more like a kind of sacred temple, which it indeed becomes at that time.

Outside of that there are some books I am looking to get that I think will provide some insight into ancient rites that likely have links to psychedelic use such as by the author P.D. Newman who has written a couple of books specifically about DMT and its link to ancient rites leading up to Freemasonry and its hidden symbology of the everlasting acacia.

So that's what I do now and also on my reading list, but I don't get too much into just trying to learn the history but rather as @Pandora said, it's about the now being a living history and bringing some of these ancient rites and the mindset accompanying them into the present, since the Depth is timeless and outside of time anyway it connects in that moment to the eternal celebration and ceremony.

I got you. You like doing things slow, quiet and the old ways.
This is like a carpenter that uses electric saws, drills, nailers and planers compared to a carpenter that uses handsaws, hand planers, and chisels to create dove tailed furniture.

One gets the job done, but the other is truly an art form and is almost always more beautiful and really shows in the quality of the final product. You really have to understand the properties of different woods and how they all react to do it the old way.

@Panpsychic I love the approach you have and I can very very much relate to this as I share a very similar mindset regarding these things. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you and to have continued discussions with you and others. Have a great day!

Just found a picture of an ancient goblet for serving Harmala tea, from the as yet little studied Jiroft Civilization dating to approximately 5000 years ago.

Quite an amazing archeological finding that is a further link to our modern practices.

Personally I am still searching for an ideal sacred goblet. Something like this would be sublime to use but they are rare pieces to find.
