redissolving jungle spice in 96.6% ethanol and recrystallizing from ethanol evap..

does it get cleaner that way? is there something that gets left behind? a friend has pulled the jungle spice with xylene and has now evapped it till its dry. he wanted to try redissolving it in 96.6% ethanol and recrystallize it by evaporating the ethanol. would this just be a waste of ethanol or might it result in a cleaner product with less impurities? that friend has heard from some people doing this.. he just wondered if its worth the trouble? or if it somehow gets some more crap out of it..

that is what SWIM is doing right now.. indeed it doesnt get rid of impurities in general, except one: the xylene/toluene itself

jungle spice seems to normally contain some leftovers of the aromatic solvents that dont evaporate.. by redissolving in ethanol, it spreads the solvents with the alcohol, allowing for more of it to evaporate (and definitely the ethanol is less toxic than xylene/toluene)

but SWIM is doing with 99,5% ethaol.. 96,6 will mean it has over 3% water, which might make the final evaporation part a bit tricky.. but I dont know for sure, maybe someone else does

usually one just needs to melt down the jungle spice to an oil and let it sit at that temperature for a while.. that way all the solvent will evaporate.. a friend is always left off with a very solid piece of spice after this procedure. he will try dissolving in ethanol and then evap the ethanol under little heat. maybe there will still be something which isn't picked up by the ethanol.

a friend has just bought a nice warm keeping platter for keeping warm food. it comes in very handy to apply something like 60 degrees celcius to something for evaporation or just warmkeeping. that way he can evaporate toxic stuff on his balcony without having to do it inside. at the moment that friend is evaping 1liter of xylene enriched with jungle spice.

and man, what a nasty smell xylene/toluene have heh? 1l evaporating? yuck haha

Why not use DCM instead of xylene/toluene? It's not nearly as bad smelling and it evaporates really fast.

If you don't mind it taking forever to evaporate, why not use d-Limonene?

d-limonene is something my friend would love to try.. should he just go through the normal procedure and then use d-limonene to pull on the solution instead of using xylene or naphtha? the xylene my friend still has left from his first procedures.. he used it all up because he had a load of the stuff in very good quality and for the next times he will use something different.

also my friend still has 5l toluene.. 3l are reserved for san pedro extraction and the rest must be used up quickly so my friend can turn to the more healthy faster evaporating sovents ore even try d-limonene..

time is not a factor when it comes to making nice things.

does d-limonene leave any kind of residue?

what do you thing about the ethanol evap thing ron?
