Remembering Dr. Nolan Williams

Somehow this flew under my radar, but today I found out that between October 8th and 9th, Dr. Nolan Williams committed suicide. I am deeply shaken and heartbroken, to the point where it feels hard to find words right now.

The world didn't just lose a great human being, a father, and a husband. It lost a pioneer, a visionary whose work has already saved so many lives, and has laid the foundation for psychedelic-assisted modes of therapy that are yet to blossom to their full life-saving potential.

It absolutely shatters my heart to see those who have dedicated their entire lives to helping people heal the deep wounds in their hearts succumb to the very same pain and wither away, silently, in front of our eyes. He was there for others when they needed him most, and helped them crawl out of their own seemingly bottomless pits of despair. Yet in the end, he didn't have the strength to crawl out of his own. The word tragedy doesn't even begin to describe this loss...

I wanted to interview him for a future edition of the Nexian and talk to him about the role of ibogaine and DMT in modern trauma healing practices in the context of a clinical setting. His findings and novel approach to mental health struggles were nothing short of amazing. Today is a sad, sad day for me.

May his soul find peace among the stars, and may the world be blessed with someone else that can take part of him down from the heavens and back to the world, because we need people like him. And may his family and his close friends find a moment of harmony amid this terrible, cold void that has opened in his absence.💔
