well yeah each person has their own way, all are valid.. whatever works for you I just dont understand what you mean by your last sentence.. Do you mean that one would not pick up all the solvent layer? Sure its possible, just submerge the glass until all the solvent goes in it, plus a little more of the basified liquid (which is easy to separate in a thinner tube). You can also repeat the process if there is some left over.. and lastly, even if there was a bit of solvent left, it would be no problem, as it will mix with the next pulls, nothing will be wasted.But yes if you have a siphon with pump, or you improvised a little pump or something, then I guess its less messy.
