well that was... interesting...The rubber gloves should be fine for a bit. Be wary of holes and keep a bit of vinegar near by. If you do manage to get lye on your skin it wont burn it off like in whatever saw movie the girl had to reach into the water to try and get the keys but it will start to sting after a half second and make your hands feel slippery if you get a lot on you. But the lye solution used even in STB tek's isnt really that bad at all, less painful than a jellyfish.Taking this opportunity to discuss lye cleanup:If you start to feel a sting because of a hole in the gloves or otherwise get some on you don't panic. Just calmly take the gloves off and any clothes you've spilled it on and grab a paper towel and bottle of vinegar. Put a clump on the end of the bottle and turn it over quick and then back straight up and down so you have a wet paper towel. Wipe off the lye solution with that first and then use water to wash away anything left over. The clothes thing is why you want to wear loose clothing that covers as much of your body as possible. If you accidently spill a bunch on your shirt then you can whip off the shirt in a second and have hardly any lye on your actual skin (WEAR GOGGLES DONT GET THIS IN YOUR EYES!). Say bye to the shirt though. If you get dry lye flakes/crystals on you try to brush them off without grinding them into your skin first. Then use vinegar. Whatever you do don't use water until after you've neutralized it with vinegar. It'll burn like the dickens and may remove a layer or two of skin if you go straight to water. Think fightclub.
