Salting with HCl gas

Migrated topic.
Well, apparently, you can salt mescaline out of naptha, so the real question would be wether you could filter off the hydrochloride salt. Unfortunately there is very little information about the properties of DMT HCl on the net. Does anyone know if it is crystalline?

If I am using anhydrous solvent and anhydrous HCl, why does hygroscopicity matter. As long as I keep things dry until it's been filtered I should be fine. Right?

Unless you are able to keep it in a vacuum then no because as soon as it gets exposed to the air it will suck up the moisture.
Can you get fumaric acid? Much easier to salt out with FASW and evap off the water.
Can be done in a cheap rice cooker overnight on the warm setting.
Even better would be to calculate how much fumaric you would need so as to reduce the excess.

I could do it in a gloove box under anhydrous conditions. I just wanna know if it is possible. It's probably not the most practical extraction. This is more about curiosity rather than efficiency or ease of production.

If you have access to the glove box, I'd suggest you get on with it and find out for the rest of us.

unless you plan to store the hcl salts in a Schlenck flask that's been evacuated, the salts will absorb moisture from the air, regardless of how anhydrous the reagents are.

the technique is feasible, but some salts are just more hygroscopic than others.

Thanks for the info. I'll add this to my DMT files as "possible, but not practical". SWIM is a big believer in growing your own medicine. So as soon as his mimosas get big enough he will try it out and do a proper work up.
