Scrap the 'wisdom' section! No to homophobia and arrogant preaching!

'Wisdom':

"Do you think that those who do bad things, like committing heinous crimes, or even those who engage in homosexual acts, want to do things that way and are born to do that?"

This is not wisdom. It is intolerance and arrogance. I'm sure there are examples aplenty more to be found. There's already a thread discussing the 'wisdom' content, so please discuss there about the content. This thread asks one question:

------- Should the 'wisdom' section be scrapped? Or at least, rewritten by a tolerant person? -------

My personal view is that the section is completely against what this site is about. To me the whole point of having visions - such as with DMT - is to develop a personal spirituality. The 'wisdom' section here seems more about preaching from a pulpit, and preaching intolerant dogma at that (the kind of stuff you expect from mainstream religion, but not from a site as wonderful as this).

ok I have a better solution (imo)

Add a disclaimer before the book of wisdom saying: "This work has been done by a former member who is no longer active. The sometimes controversial views here expressed do not represent the view of the forum members, and neither of the dmt experience"

or something of the sort..

Ah, I wasn't aware of this.

There will be a site change in a few weeks anyway, I'll put this one on the list. I think the solution endlessness proposes is the best thing to do.

Kind regards,

The Traveler

After reading blackclo's posts I vote to scrap that horrid thing once and for all.

I agree. A disclaimer doesn't seem sufficient considering the content of that section. We don't need homophobia masquerading as "Wisdom" on this great site, even if there's a disclaimer in front of the bogotry.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but isn't it important to allow people to voice their OPINION, no matter if you agree with it or not? As long as it is made clear that the content of it is not the work of the dmt-nexus, it seems like it should at least go somewhere, if not the wisdom section. or maybe wisdom could be changed to "random thoughts of a spaced out ex member"

Sure they're entitled to voice their opinion. Blackclo, for example, made it abundantly clear in the other thread discussing the Book of Wisdom that he considers homosexuality to be unnatural and inferior to heterosexual union. That's his prerogative.

But to have such dogmatic prejudiced views as one of the major links from the main site, labelled as "Wisdom" seems entirely unnecessary. I'd be comfortable with it being relocated to the Esoteric Texts portion of the Files section (provided it still includes the disclaimer). But I think it's current place on the site gives far too much credence to such a narrow point of view.

More censorship more thought police, come on people we are bigger than that. Blackclovers views my be distastefull, to me too, but censorship stuff off!

good point

It seems that plenty of people really want the book removed, but scraping it off is not the solution; maybe neither the proposed disclaimer.

I feel that the problem is that the "book of wisdom" is easily accessible from the very front page of the Nexus, many visitors therefore bump onto it and may get the wrong opinion about dmt and the the patrons of the forum. This is exactly what happened to me when I first bumped on the Nexus.

I propose that the "book of wisdom" is moved to the "FILES" section, along with the other documents. In that way not everyone will bump onto it unless he/she really likes to do some searching on the FILES. Besides, the FILES also contain other documents whose content may be controversial and the book is by no means better than these other documents!

[Edit: the ESOTERIC section of the FILES is most suited for the book)

I couldn't resist coming back to check up on this debate. I think this is a really good idea. Or, alternatively, the 'wisdom' section could become some sort of files section for thoughts from all members. Then Blackclo's view would no longer look like the endorsed view of the site, but merely as the opinion of a certain belief system, among a collection of other belief systems. I'd be really interested to learn about Acolon_5s belief system, for example, if he chose to share it there. And maybe even each person's offering of 'wisdom' could have a forum beneath for others to discuss their viewpoint, and for the author to defend it if they so wished?

I'm not actually into censorship, I'm just against the apparent endorsement of the viewpoint due to its position, as Infundibulum says, which sends out the wrong message. This is actually the most intelligent drug-based forum that I've ever seen, but the 'wisdom' is going to put off some people. I actually find it quite scary that her views appear endorsed... and her comments in the thread on the 'wisdom' content have shown her to be undeniably homophobic.

But if the route of no-censorship is to be taken, then the admin must be prepared to allow people to post other distasteful worldviews such as racism, fascist and fanatical views for example. I'm sure this wouldn't happen, because to be honest I'm amazed even to hear Blackclo's views, because I always assumed that hallucinogen users would have learnt to be tolerant. If it's true that Blackclo founded this site, as someone said, then I guess her views are the views of the site, and if that's the case then I fear Infundibulum's wise proposal will never be enacted.

I still think it would be much easier for Blackclo to just edit out her homophobic references for the sake of harmony (just as one would any other deeply controversial ones, for example being anti-choice or perceiving disabled people to have been punished through past life deeds). Views like these could be discussed in a more democratic environment.

Thank you :)

I'm waiting for an outcome. A site change is apparently imminent, and if it's done something like your suggestion, then I would love to make this my home. I'm sure some people would just see something like that on their first visit and write the site off, without bothering to get to know you all through the forums.

Agreed, nevertheless leaving it on the front page of the website under WISDOM, is a message that this forum views those particular idea's as acceptable. It's like it's the Nexus misson statment and I find that unacceptable.

Why not move it to the files section as Infundibulum suggested.

Freedom of speach is important, but so is tolerance, understanding, and love.

BTW ohayoco, Blackclo did found the site, but it is The Traveler's now. He owns the server, does the maintenance, and makes the changes. He is very reasonable, much more cool headed than I am, and is open to suggestions from Nexus members. I suggest you stick around... The recent Blackclo posts are the first I have seen of him/her since I joined the nexus...he really doesn't particpate in our discussions anymore. this is the first real debate I have seen on the Nexus...don't let it push you out. This is the best forum of it's kind hands down.

I'd also be glad to discuss my personal views and beliefs on god, life, death, the universe etc.. to anyone that would like to. Maybe we can start a thread on belief systems that have been influenced/created by The Spice.
