Seperation Concerns

Hello guys!


So im doing a S2B and I am working on my second pull and the strangest thing I have used this tech many times and usually it by the 3rd or 4th pull that the separation takes a little while to split to pull out. But this time, I am on my second pull and it been about a full hour and still it is not fully separated. Maybe I am not being patient But im assuming that for the next 2 pulls 3rd and fourth I should add maybe a 25% more Lye to basify the solution more to make the seperation happen faster or would I just keep it the same amount of Lye and let the seperation take a long time to get more xtals out.

Also 4 pulls is really the most pulls you can do right then you should just add a lot more LYE and let it sit for like 2-4 weeks and let it really break down the MHRB and get another 2 pulls off of that correct?

And lastly Once I do these pulls is there any other Basifying chemical stronger than NAOH I can use to break down the MHRB even further to pull out other active chemicals in the sludge?

Not quite sure what your asking. If it's not seperating, add some more lye (doesn't really matter how much...) You do pulls until you don't pull any more... I usually get 4-5. But I also let my basified mix sit for a couple days before I pull with warm naphtha. If you want other actives, you have to pull with another solvent, such as D-limo (but I think you need a new tech for that) or Xylene (I think you can just use this to pull the others).

Once its broken down, you can't really "break it down further"...

I guess I just think my main concern is usually the separation on my other extractions go a lot faster this one seems to be taking a longer time....

So you think I should wait 24 hours between pulls with random shaking in between....BTW my jugs are in a hot bath hitting 170ish degrees so separation usually happens pretty fast

hmmm, you could try adding potassium hydroxide instead of naoh, it is supposed to be more effective in preventing emulsions, but first try more NaOH.. Did you shake the jug violently? Just keep it in the bath for a bit and add a little more NaOH and hopefully it wont take too long to resolve itself. Is the basified aqueous bark solution very thick like a mud, or is it watery? It could help adding some more water with a good amount more NaOH if the bark solution is thick. No worries man, the gold is still in the mine, theres just a minor obstruction you gotta pick through.
