@Jamie01 what kind of programming do you want to learn? Meaning, what kind of things would you want to do with it? I can recommend some books depending on what you want, I've helped several people get started.

And, while it won't be too comfortable, if you have an Android phone it's definitely possible to program there. There are some code editors (I haven't tried them) and you can also install Termux and have a quite capable GNU/Linux terminal on your phone (Android is Linux underneath). There are also web editors that allow you to edit and run code on the browser.
A computer will be much more comfortable, however.

I just upgraded the monitors from a three monitor setup and loving every minute of it. I work remotely so I justify the large spend on quality/comfort of life. This things takes everything that I throw at it. I have windows and most of the work that I do is actually through remote desktop connection/VNC/some other provider browser type thing. So I am kind of stuck on windows. They want me to "upgrade" to 11. 🤮

...
I intend to do the same myself when I have a more stable location. I have no experience with it, what did you find the most challenging in the process? It's very worth it to learn, you get to tailor it to your needs and it's also cheaper when controlling for quality and specs.

I would say that your right this is my second official build. You get to understand a lot better the intricacies of the system that you will be using daily. You also know how to replace your parts if any of them break. For me the most challenging part in the process is actually just making sure that the parts that your ordered will all work with each other in the first place. But there are lots of resources to make sure that they all mesh together.

My wife dropped it a few times watching Netflix…I should probly take it in to get it looked at but I just sorta forgot about it.

I don’t know anything about coding so I don’t know what I want to do, just that I want to learn more about it.
Yeah your phone is basically just a mini computer in your pocket. It runs on a linux based operating system either Apple or Android and adheres to the same principles as its big brothers. Only thing is you probably are going to want a computer or laptop anyway as type is a lot easier/faster with a keyboard. 😅

*Edit: I also just wanted to share I have learned a way to get my phone connected to my computer through TCPIP. This has actually improved my focus day to day due centralizing my tech. (For those curious its called SCRCPY.)*

I've always been an avid gamer. Whether that's a manifestation of an escape/coping mechanism or just pure passion for a hobby, I cannot tell, but my setups have always been centered around that. My current PC is running a bit old but still working like a charm for almost all that I need it to do.

Main Rig:
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-13600K @ 3,5GHz
  • GPU: Palit RTX 3080 12GB LHR
  • RAM: Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5, 32GB, 6400MHz @ CL32
  • Storage: WD Black 2TB + Kingston NV2 2TB NVMe M.2
  • Case: Fractal Meshify 2 RGB
  • CPU Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360
  • Thermal Paste: Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro (yeah, I know, blasphemy!)

Peripherals:
  • Headset: Beyerdynamics DT 900 Pro X
  • Mouse: Razer Deathadder V2 Pro
  • Keyboard: Shortcut Studio Bridge75 MAX
  • Monitor: LG UltraGear 24'', IPS, Full HD, 144Hz, 1ms
The reason why I'm running windows and not a part of the cool kids Linux club is pretty simple - Windows does everything I need it to do and the things it doesn't do quite in the way I want it to do aren't that big of a deal to me. On top of that, I run a lot of games and music production software which have better compatibility with Windows. Maybe one day I'll make the switch, but for now I simply don't see a point.

The whole gaming rig was built from scratch by yours truly. It was a challenging yet rewarding process to build a machine like that, and now that I've done it, I would never settle for a pre-built setup because of how fun and engaging it is to do it yourself.

Read a bit about Windows 11 LTSC, and you may decide to reconsider. It's a stripped-down version with ten years of support. You can easily download and activate it via Massgrave. I have used it for a year now without problems.

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I will have to bite bullet and maybe soon but having the option to go LTSC makes me feel better.

In light of my recent thread about enjoying the small things in life, I went ahead and did a small upgrade of my GPU to this puppy:

It seems to be performing exceptionally well both in actual games and in 3DMark benchmarks:

1762525492457.png

And that's with the stock settings. This is the OC model, meaning I can easily overclock it with Afterburner and shoot it even higher in the performance leaderboard, but it doesn't make sense as it already gives me more FPS in all games than I could possibly need, so shortening the life of the GPU by overclocking isn't needed. It's only outperformed by the highest-end gaming GPUs out there like the 5090 or AMD's equivalent, whose name I don't know. And I got it at a very discounted price too, so I'm not too fussed about spending a few hundred bucks on it (provided that I sell my old GPU, which I'm trying to do haha).

Oh well, now I will allow myself to enjoy the fruits of my labor, even knowing I didn't really need that upgrade to begin with.

I like it! And here I am, with my "Intel integrated graphics" haha.
Will you set up local image generation? It could be fun.

Nah I'm not dabbling with image generation models due to ethical concerns. I might run a local instance of OLlama or some text model like that in case I need it in the future.

Who on earth would ever want that? :D
Trolls, bots and new users. Your immortal avatar would welcome everyone with an open heart and a hearty bit of wisdom
In all honesty, congrats. I went far away from gaming, but it's an awesome hobby to have. I have lots of fond memories from my gaming days.
